Michail Antonio’s rehab miracle exceeds all expectations

West Ham’s Michail Antonio is growing stronger each day and is determined to be available for selection before the end of the season.

Those who have seen him training in the gym are amazed at the progress he has made since his December car crash when many wrote him off from ever playing professional football again. The West Ham striker recently met Mauro Zarate and his son at the London Stadium and was pictured without any walking aids.

He was later seen at Rush Green in the gym before flying off for a 12-day rehabilitation trip to Dubai.

Antonio is due to return soon and will be unveiled before kick-off as a guest of honour at the London Stadium for the Leicester City game on 27 February.

With the last game of the season on 25 May, Antonio has 95 days to get fit and achieve his goal before his contract expires

It’s good to see Antonio’s progress ahead of schedule and I wish him well in his recovery. But let’s be realistic he will be 35 next month and surely his contract can’t be extended for another year. We need young technically gifted players who will have high resale value to fit the Potter player profile, and sadly Micky just doesn’t fit that description. He’s had a great career with West Ham but it’s time to move on.

Why? He was pretty bloody awful before the accident and he’s not going to be any better after it. If it was a compound femur fracture, that’s hard to come back from fully fit.

He wasn’t worthy of a new contract when he was fit, so why offer a new one now he’s crocked.

I wish him well – but remember his accident was self-inflicted and we continue to pay him; that’s two supercar crashes in five years, neither of which seemed to involve anyone else. He spent the summer complaining no one would insure him – I wonder why?

It would be great to see Antonio in a Hammers shirt again this season………but not beyond!

To have life after an accident like he had is a miracle, he’s a big strong boy and if he gets back to playing for West Ham again, now that would be incredible for him, I reckon he will and wish him well.

I wasn’t really expecting his contract to be renewed before the accident.
