‘Anxiety over’ for Hammers fans

In record time it seems West Ham have concluded their most important piece of business this transfer window. Whether other  player transactions get over the line, the Hammers’ loan signing of Evan Ferguson is now completed and his contract is signed.

As broken by ex whu employee, the news is confirmed that Ferguson is now a Claret and Blue player for the rest of the season.

No doubt we’ll see the club wheeling out the obligatory photos in the shirt later in the day.

Whilst this is an important capture for West Ham, it is of course merely a short term stopgap to plug the holes in the attack left by Niclas Fullkrug’s hamstring injury and Michail Antonio’s broken leg.

We look forward to seeing Ferguson make his debut which could come as soon as next week’s tie against Brentford: He is ineligible to play tonight against Chelsea having played at the weekend as a substitute for parent club Brighton.

Ferguson will wear the ’34’ shirt for the remainder of the season.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

Anxiety😜😜😜😜you must be joking.. It’s the same Fred Karnos every year.

  • D.f.butcher says:

    Who???

  • John Ayris says:

Good signing on loan. Couldn’t be a permanent or with obligation. Brighton had no gain in offering an option. Lets hope he keeps fit.

  • mark wiggins says:

Look Ferguson a good player , let’s hope he stays fit . However even with JWP back it does not address the midfield

  • Jeeps says:

That was all they were really interested in.
All other speculation was just a load of eye wash and fog to keep punters busy.

  • Fredk says:

Well it’s a step in the right direction, however if he works out well for us is he going to be permanent? Fullkrug,Ings and Antonio will be gone no doubt so we will need one other striker at least. Still need a centre back and some energy in midfield but I’m glad WP is returning as he adds another dimension to our play. Hopefully we can offload in the summer, identify players early and let the manager choose his squad,Less of the drama would be a nice change.

Fredk, I like your words ” . . . let the manager choose his squad . . . ” . For me, this is were the power should be. By all means lets have a first class director of whatever to identify and obtain players, but only to meet what the head coach/manager requires. No tails wagging the dog.
After all we now have Potter who’s looking like we can trust.

  • Terry says:

That’s the striker done just the CB and the 2 midfielders to be signed and then we have completed the draft for this window

  • Morty says:

I understand that Ferguson can’t play at Chelsea, but why can’t Ward-Prowse, he’s already our player?

  • B says:

Signing Ferguson is a great move for both clubs and feather in the cap of Potter & Macaulay.
It doesn’t address the striker issue for next season, when Ings, Fulkrug & Antonio will all be gone.
There’s hope for this season though.

  • M B says:

I think the anxiety has only just begun 😂. Chaotic scattergun approach is back since Steiden has gone. Other sites are claiming we are ready to spend big today, I doubt but if true why is it left to last day of window? The circus continues!

  • Paul Basnett says:

Good news but it’s hardly “anxiety over”! No longer term fixes for immediate problems and if Ferguson is unfit or just not good no progress. If touch wood he plays well then off he goes in the Summer. All eggs in the basket of a short term loan of Ferguson is resolving very little. Let’s hope he’s really good for a stress free season end, sadly though all the same problems next Summer.

    • Ray says:

Precisely Paul, but we are dealing with Martin here who is definitely not a “broader picture” person and apparently has very little analysis capability. As I said earlier, they have 4-5 months to come up with a plan now and no excuses.

  • John Lattimore says:

I don’t understand why playing for Brighton on Saturday makes him ineligible to play today?

    • Tim says:

You have to be registered a certain amount of time prior to kick off. He has not been registered prior to that deadline so hence he cannot play
