Areola on cusp of glory

|

Alphonse Areola will hope to be involved in France’s World Cup win today.

The Hammers goalkeeper remains with the squad ahead of their titanic clash with Argentina in the final later this afternoon.

Areola has not actually played at the tournament, with No.1 Hugo Lloris being the side’s unmovable captain.

He has won five caps in total for Les Bleus and has only made appearances in the UEFA Nations League and international friendlies.

Every single player in a squad at the World Cup is given a medal, as are members of the coaching staff, so if France win today, Areola will pick up his second World Cup winner’s medal.

He was also a member of the squad that won the 2018 tournament, beating Croatia 4-2 in an iconic final.

The other Hammers involvement in today’s final involves Lionel Scaloni, he of the sliced clearance in the FA Cup final fame.

Allez Les Bleus.
