Areola’s big chance

Alphonse Areola could be set for a big France opportunity after Hugo Lloris sustained an injury, per Football.London.

The France goalkeeper has been called up for the Nations League games against Austria and Denmark.

The Hammers stopper is currently our second-choice and operates in a similar role for the French national team, with Spurs goalkeeper Lloris wearing their captain’s armband.

However, the Tottenham ace has sustained a thigh injury which has led to his withdrawal from the squad, with Ligue 1 ‘keeper Alban Lafont called up to replace him.

There is a chance, then, that Areola could be placed in the starting XI as France aim to complete two wins in a row.

Areola has thus far won three caps for his country but has not played for France since an international friendly against Bolivia in 2019.

He has since been used as a bench option by Les Bleus, but he will be hoping to get on the pitch in this international break.
