Arnie returns to spark precious victory

Hammers 2 Watford 0

By Hugh Southon

The Irons bounced back from their miserable performance on the south coast last weekend to grab three precious points and a fine display.

We may often be a shambles off the pitch but the players did all the talking with a great display at the London Stadium showing real grit and edge in the first half as they attacked the Hornets and brilliant defensive abilities in the second.

Chicharito set us on our way with a HEADER from a great Antonio cross at the end of a dazzling left wing run and Arnautovic slipped home the second from two yards after Cresswell’s  cross set him up following a corner that was never properly cleared.

Watford poured at us for most of the second half but rarely created a big chance although Adrian made a couple of great saves from free kicks.

James Collins produced some heroic interventions with his head was on the end of most everything that arrived in the box whilst Ogbonna and Zabaleta were both top notch.

But Marko Arnautovic’s energy return was the key to the victory which took us to 30 points and kept us in 12th place but level on points with Watford.

My man of the match: Arnautovich

  1. Remember when Charlie Adam made a point of having a dig when Arnie signed for us? Well today Arnie scored again. Where was Charlie boy ? Grabbing the ball to take a pen at 1-1 & hitting it at the goalie. Then dithering & losing the ball when it came back & he could have tapped in. Sometimes I think there is a God after all….

  2. A great result today, just what was needed… the 3 points earned are massive..a few more wins like that will certainly ease the pressure on everyone…..we can all have an excellent weekend now !! Let’s enjoy our moment and get back to business on Monday..there’s still an awful lot of work that still needs to be done and bringing in 3/4 new quality players over the summer is certainly needed…..let’s not be hearing excuses over player recruitment….Get some much needed Quality in the team…there’s plenty of time to see who we need and who we don’t ……COYI
