Arnie stunner: “I want to compete with the best”

Marko Arnautovic has openly admitted for the first team that he could be tempted to leave West Ham and his agent/ brother Danijel has made it clear it could happen.

The Hammers top man raised serious alarm bells in an interview with the Austrian newspaper Kurier where he is  quoted as saying: “I’m 29, so that’s the best age. It’s clear that I want to compete with the best players. But in this affair I totally trust my brother.”

Manchester United were believed to be anxious to sign him in the summer but the Irons were and are  determined to hold on to the striker.

However his brother’s words are of major concern as the transfer window approaches.

His brother said: “He’s already playing in the Premier League and that’s where the best players are. But for a player like Marko this cannot be the end.

“Marko is really enjoying playing for West Ham. He loves that club and the fans. But there is still that feeling, that this cannot be the end. And everybody should understand that.”

Asked if it was possible Arnautovic could leave soon, his brother added: “That’s possible. It was already very, very close this last summer.”

CandH says: This is the worst news in the world to wake up to. However, it has to be said the report from the Austrian paper will come as no big surprise if we are all entirely honest with ourselves. Arnie has been a phenomenon since he arrived from Stoke and switched to central striker. It would be impossible to believe that the world hasn’t been watching him with Jose Mourinho making a well publicised scouting visit whilst he was on international duty back in the summer..That he should now be making such noises about his future can’t be brushed off . He will of course demand the largest transfer fee in our history and the club will no doubt claim he’s not for sale. However, this is not good. There is no way I would expect him to leave in January but next summer now looks another critical period for the club.

  1. Football has many problems now with the transfer fees.wages.cost of actually going to a game but agents are a genuine cancer on the game

  2. And that’s why you have huge buy out clauses. Players, however much we love them, have personal ambition. I want to see this fella in a claret and blue shirt for many more seasons, but if someone came knocking with £90,000,000 you’d have to consider it.

  3. You have to wonder if this is Arnie’s idea or his brothers.A big pay day could be on the way for him. As I recall West Ham were berated for paying £20m for him from a very average Stoke team, where the Stoke fans were pleased to see him go.Now again West Ham are not regarded as a “big “team. So he goes to Man U,maybe we can have Sanchez as a swap, but who will he replace at centre forward,Lukaku? Really.

  4. Don’t fret the poppodom’s imminent return in just around the corner 😂

  5. In all honesty, I cannot blame the lad for wanting to be and play at the highest level. It’s what any professional sportsman should want. Sometimes, for the player, it’s not about money but wanting to test themselves against the best. They want to win things. Unfortunately, as much as I love the Hammers, it doesn’t look like we will be doing that in the near future. Arnie is 29. Time is running out for him. He hasn’t got too many seasons where he’ll be good enough for a champions league side.
It will be a gutter to see him leave but how can you hold the lad back. Let’s get as much for him as possible and improve our team as best we can. COYI.

    • exactly. I still think most of this is from his agent.

He is 100% happy here, however It wouldn’t be a shock if a champions league side came in he wold want to play there. He has never had that sort of move before so i wouldn’t hold it against him. There is a realistic chance of this happening in the summer.

However this is not a guarantee,He would be 30 come summer, i’m not sure the top clubs would pay the money we demand for him.

      Its really 50/50.

  6. Let him go if that’s what he wants. A player that wants out is n

  7. Sadly, I have to agree. He has Moyes to thank for the interest from other clubs. Moving Arnie from the wing to the centre saved our season.

He must be worth at least £50m in today’s market, which is a remarkable return bearing in mind what we all thought when he was sent off against Soton.

There is no such thing as a settled team anymore.

  8. Oh dear that’s not great news but hope it’s media hype . We need to win games as a team and compete at the top of the league to keep guys like Arnie happy . So the whole team need to start getting results . Who would replace him that’s the question , the whole team need to improve COYI

  9. i personally am not surprised by this revelation as i live in stoke and know the feelings of most stoke fans around here regarding when he left to join West Ham they feel like we did when DP forced a move away from us & could see this coming a long time ago as his brother was deeply involved then as well but at the time i didn’t realise just how good he was but like some say on here if we can get a good return on him if it happens and we get a good replacement then i would not be to disappointed

  10. No brainer for West Ham. He would command a very sizeable fee and as he’s 30 next April he’s hardly got 8 seasons or so left in him for us. Pelle could use the money to assist his rebuilding. Anyway,a player that wants out is no good to any club. Thanks Arnie after all it was West Ham that tuned you into a centre forward!⚒⚒⚒

  11. I wonder if he’d pass a medical at the moment with that knee injury. It’s clearly going to need some proper treatment at some point rather than just managing it as is the case at the moment.

  12. FFs what and absolute joke ..West ham have and always Will be a stepping
Stone for players to show there wares to move on to bigger clubs that’s why we will.always be an average mid table team …the worrying thing is when he isn’t playing we are awful…..so when he goes it’s back th the relegation scraps ….
