Arsenal are ready to sell Carl Jenkinson at the end of the season with West Ham likely to start the bidding at around £4 million.
Arsene Wenger, with Mathieu Debuchy, hugely promising youngster Hector Bellerin and £16m summer signing Ben Chambers avaialable, is now believed ready to let Jenks move on.
However, with the player having signed a deal until 2018, the Gunners are in a strong position to get the fee they want which ClaretandHugh understands is around £6 million.
The Hammers will drive as hard a bargain as possible and with the player happily settled in London that will help their case.
With Spurs out of the running for obvious reasons, Chelsea uninterested and neither Crystal Palace or QPR in the market place, the Irons look to have the field to themselves.
Bellerin – at four years younger than Jenks – is from the Barcelona academy and is seen as a huge prospect thus limiting Jenkinson’s chances considerably.
A West Ham source revealed to ClaretandHugh: “There have been very early discussions and given the length of contract, they hold the whip hand of course.
But Jenks is a London boy who wants first team football and we will be doing our best to get a deal done. He’s had a great season and settled well.”
As long as he is no more than 7 mil get him signed up quick before someone else goes after him he is more important than Song.
Agree bubs. The jury was out on Song from when he started, he has now proved why Barcelona didn’t want him. Signing Jenks is a must. Hopefully Reid will sign too meaning we won’t have the outlay to replace him, thus leaving enough of a budget to get a decent play making midfielder,
Whats the point of all this ‘drive a hard bargain’,whether its 4 or 6 mill is peanuts.Players far inferior to him go for double that.Lets not get into some haggling situation so someone else steams in & buys him.Just get the deal done.If Reid signs again we save on having to replace him.No need to fight over a couple of mill.Get it done with no farting about 😉
Sign him NOW, we got £20 mill from the shirt sponsors, havn’t we.
Sign him & Reid then get a decent midfielder to replace Song maybe, sign up Nene sell Carroll, Nolan , Jarvis and O’Brien, they can all go to wherever Sam goes for all I care.
Sign also, Richards as cover for Jenks 2 more midfielders a centre half and two forwards job done.

I agree.Time for a clean out at Upton Park. The manager and the remnants from our last stint in the Championship have to go.If Newcastle come calling sell Carroll as well.He is just a drain on the club’s finances which stops us buying quality sound players.I seem to remember Carroll being courted by Allardyce.IMO Brendan Rogers knew what he was doing when he told Carroll he had no future at Liverpool.
Every one agrees on this subjects so let’s get on with it now,
6m is nothing for a player like Jenkinson.Just sign him ffs, dont tart about over a couple of million. What would we have to pay ro replace him with someone else as good.I read someone on here the other day say he was rubbish. They they must live on a different planet to me.He is a real prospect, young & just the type of player we should be buying 😉
That was me rads, trust me on this one and I do live on the same planet as you.. See my post below…
I’ve always appreciated Song a player; in my opinion he’s one of the best midfielder. It is also true that his last performances have not been so good. But I would be happy if will be here again next year, I hope that his price decrease so we can make an offer.
Jenkinson is young, speed and with good feet, he has a lot of room for improvement. We should absolutely buy him.
I’m sure the new coach will perfectly know how to value each player; I hope owners will sell Jarvis, Demel, O’Brien, Nolan, Cole and (personal opinion) Carroll; with the profit made by selling these players we could buy other younger.
Sorry bubs and rest, for once I totally disagree. I have been studying Jenks all season and my conclusions are simple he is not a good defender – yes he is good going forward but you must be able to defend. In the game at the weekend his defensive positioning at times was simply dreadful, in my opinion I would try Burke or Oxford at right full for a few games before end of season. I am telling you now they will be better than Jenks. I believe Jenks would be a terrible signing. Stay well clear…
Ok John,no worries. We will just have to agree to disagree on this one 😀
I must admit I notice him more running up the flanks and crossing than doing defensive duties! Has he ever played midfield? Would be interesting to see some of his playing stats! Coyi

Hey Jeff
Thats a link to his stats on the new WHUFC web site. Quite an interesting read
But to be fair Jeff, that is how it is these days. Not many old school style fullbacks about anymore.I must say im a fan of his.Think he will be a good player, still learning his trade really, just a young pup 😉
I’d prefer us to sign micha Richards on a free but considering he can play centre back effectively to why not sign both
He’s only 23 Im sure his defending will improve .. sign him up
