Recently, I pointed out how much of the football media landscape is being filled with pure conjecture. One article in particular centred on the future of Crysencio Summerville and stood out for all the wrong reasons.
The piece contained only a handful of verifiable facts, such as West Ham’s relegation, Summerville’s statistics, his injury record, his transfer fee and the length of his contract. Beyond that, the article drifted into unrestrained fantasy.

Links to clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool or Barcelona were presented as if they carried weight, yet they were nothing more than speculative name-dropping. At this rate, they might as well have thrown in Real Madrid or Manchester City for good measure.
The journalist claimed: “He is absolutely going to another club in the Premier League.”
But offered no evidence of bids, talks or even interest.

Statements like “Top clubs like Arsenal or Liverpool are going to fight for him” and “He could join Arsenal or Liverpool” were delivered without sources, insider information or club statements — just hypotheticals dressed up as reporting.
Then came the Barcelona angle, with supposed interest because Raphinha “might drop his name internally”.
No Spanish reporting. No quotes. No corroboration. Pure imagination.
Football Transfer Reporting Becoming Increasingly Fictional
The claim that “He can choose from a number of clubs” was another assumption unsupported by any concrete transfer activity.
And the idea there is an “extremely small chance he returns to the Championship” was presented as fact, despite being nothing more than opinion.
Anyone craving fiction might be better off waiting for the new series of House of the Dragon.
Let’s hope any would be purchasers are fixated on his brief “showtime” spell as for most of his West Ham career his form wouldn’t raise much cash
