Sean Whetstone’s article last night – which you might have missed- confirms that Manchester United have not yet made formal contact with West Ham over their reported interest in Mateus Fernandes. Stories in Red Devils’ fan pages seem to think it a foregone conclusion that their side will sweep in and steal Fernandes away for a snip.
West Ham’s assertion that they do not need to sell the midfielder is fooling nobody: Urgent debt repayment means the cash strapped Hammers will have to listen for serious offers for most of their top talent this summer and fans are already reconciled to seeing a virtually unrecognisable eleven take the pitch in August.
However the entry of Arsenal into the mix for Fernandes offers good news for West Ham;’s beleaguered board. According to last night’s givemesport.com, the second bidder (and possibly the third) which will help drive Fernandes’ price upwards is on the horizon:
“Contact Made: Arsenal Get Green Light to Hijack £80m Man Utd Transfer
..Manchester United could see their move to sign Fernandes hijacked by Arsenal.

Manchester United might be Fernandes’ preference, but The Gunners may be about to steam in
Which will be music to the ears of the board. West Ham fans have seen their captain Declan Rice sold to Arsenal so the thought of Fernandes strutting for the Gooners is not exactly joyous but not in the same category of upset: Another twenty million generated between Man U, Arsenal and PSG would be a price worth paying if =it enabled the irons to start a squad rebuild before July is out.
I would sooner all our departing players moved abroad. Would hate to see the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United benefit from our demise.
£80 Million is cheap…….
The 80 million being banded about is a strange figure, west ham may believe they can ask that , but we all know it won’t happen, 50 or 60 may be achievable, but that’s pushing it , as a club west ham are holding a poor hand and nobody’s going to fall for their bluff I’m afraid.
Your move PSG or Real Madrid. Blow both of the grubby, little English clubs out of the water. Will feel a lot less painful watching the boy in a foreign league next season.
Why would Fernandes moving to ‘Half Price Declan’ Arsenal be any less bitter than Man U? It wouldn’t it would actually be worse.
They are all going to go (anyone who thinks Bowen and Soucek will or even want to stay is not grounded in reality). While Sullivan stays the club will continue to burn and the team will sink probably all the way down to League One and Kretinsky is no better judging by the increasing decline in Royal Mail since he took over.
