As predicted…Collins gets new deal

|
james-collins-435648James Collins has landed the predicted new deal which will keep him at West Ham for another two years.
It came on top of his awesome performance against Swansea at the weekend and confrmed ClaretandHugh’s story yesterday that the manager was ready to “talk turkey” with the central defender.
We had reported: ” it was the big topic of conversation inside the club and that the manager was edging towards offer Ginge a one or two year contract.”And this morning the club announced the the centre-half has been rewarded for a series of strong performances and an all-round professional approach with a deal that now expires in the summer of 2018.

Speaking to the official site Collins said: “I’m obviously delighted to sign, as it was worrying me a bit that I’d have to leave again!

“To be signing for another two years, I can’t explain how happy I am to be part of a Club that is moving forward and getting bigger and bigger, so to be part of that is unbelievable.

“I try to be professional, as I’ve been in teams where players make a negative effect when they’re not playing, so I am just proud to be part of such an amazing Club. I’m happy coming in every morning, whether I’m playing or not playing, and I train hard and try to keep myself fit.

“Like I said, to be part of such a big club for such a long time, I’m a very lucky boy. To sign for another two years is something that, to be honest, looked doubtful at the start of the season, so I got my head down and trained hard and tried to show what I could do.”

Well done lad. Always good to see reward given, when its earned.

Amazing to think that a few weeks ago after is sending off the club were extremely unhappy with him and his general discipline was being called into question.

And a couple of weeks before that we were talking about how amazing his performance was at Palace. It’s up and down all the time with Collins.

But good for him, his commitment can never be questioned.

  • Muckracker says:

On a different note, what has happened to the oft qouted club policy that contract extensions, wage reviews etc, are only done at the end of the season and not a day before?

    • whambam says:

Well spotted mate, maybe his contract is up in January and we wanted it sorted to keep the stability of the club going but I would definitely tie up the Lanzini deal before his head gets turned and never mind ‘it’s a cast iron agreement’, there’s always a way round these things

Like Noble the guy is a hero that always gives as much as he can during a game but some fans will get on his back if he makes a mistake, some fans wouldn’t say Noble is a ‘legend’ but he is

    • oldgit says:

A legend? Noble is absolutely useless. This is the season when he should have kicked on after being made captain but this has been his worst season ever. Some of his games have been embarrassingly bad. He is not even championship class

Legendary status can be looked at from many angles, he has put on that shirt more than anyone in the history of our club man and boy, he’s in the top 5 in Europe for taking penalties and top 10 in the world for conversion rate, England Captain at 3 different levels, not a bad CV for a kid who like us used to support us from the terraces and dreaming of one day walking out on to the pitch to play for us

  • Michael Miller says:

Good news all round – keeps him out of the clutches of other Clubs and gives him what he deserves!

  • petebonds says:

Well deserved , he is an asset for sure is our Ginge !

  • bubs says:

Great cover for the next 2 years just hope the youngsters don’t get held back to long,
