West Ham are preparing themselves for a transfer bid which matches the clubs valuation of wantaway star Lucas Paquetá.

According to Jacob Steinberg, Flamengo are now willing to meet the €40m (£34m) asking price for the Brazilian midfielder. But with Paquetá reportedly refusing to play, this saga has become toxic — and incredibly damaging for a team already lacking creativity and leadership on the pitch.

As reported within the past hour, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Paquetá has agreed personal terms with Flamengo, while ExWHUEmployee reports that the player is actively driving the move. In truth, it’s the latest slap in the face for a club that stood by him through legal uncertainty, media scrutiny, and prolonged poor form. What is clear is that with all the big hitters in the media reporting the situation as fact, this is no silly transfer rumour.

Lucas paqueta scores for West Ham

Nuno wishes to keep Paqueta but the feeling is not reciprocated

Desperate Nuno still clinging on to hopes of keeping Paqueta

Nuno Espírito Santo is said to be desperate to keep hold of his star man, having publicly and privately backed him to be the creative force behind a Hammers revival. But instead of digging in, Paquetá has chosen to walk away — and worse, he’s doing it mid-season.

Claret & Hugh sources suggest Paquetá has made it clear to the club he does not intend to play again. That leaves West Ham with zero leverage, and Flamengo poised to take advantage by negotiating a cut-price deal.

With George Earthy already sent out to Bristol City and no creative reinforcements lined up, the Hammers are staring at a full-blown crisis.

Once again, poor planning has come back to haunt us — but this time, I think we’ll have to take it on the chin. After all, the least West Ham could have expected was a bit of loyalty from the player.

More evidence that Nuno is living in the past and acting on what once was rather than what is. If we were talking about Bowen, I would be concerned, but Paqueta is dead weight and the rest are carrying him.

  • Zahama says:

I dont think that Paqeta is the man to save us from relegation – so we should sell him

Any idea why Fernandes was not in the squad for the FA cup game – I think that he is the player more likely to help save us from relegation

  • Phil Baker says:

Luckily , Sullivan can sign another steaming turd from Fulham for JUST 7 million .

  • AGJ says:

I know West Ham stood by him with the betting stuff but we really didn’t have any choice. If we hadn’t “stood by him” he would have left for nothing for sure. We had to gamble that it would all be ok if we stood by him. Guess what? It was ok (he got cleared) but West Ham loose out anyway. £34M is good business if we can get it!

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Sounds once again like club media to drive the move, awaiting the player media to counteract it.

£34m is a steal for a player of Paqueta’s quality, Aston Villa wanted him not long ago should see what they are willing to pay or Liverpool, Newcastle, City or Utd

If we have to sell him may as well get the best price and some competing offers

  • Jeeps says:

There should be some discussion who is available to take his place?
    This is a main concern.
At this rate we’ll be calling up the groundsmen!
Why have they let so many players leave?
    Absolute pitiful organisation.
    The clock is ticking.
Never mind we’ve turned the corner next game will be a spanking.

  • Martyn says:

Come on Gonzo you know loyalty is long gone from football. If we get 34m and spend it wisely we will be a better team without him.

  • Kenny Irons says:

Obviously the bloke is an a******e, after the way West Ham stood by him, he’s an absolute disgrace. Just get rid, he does nothing on the pitch when he plays other than roll around, total waster. Nuno, sorry mate your favourite player is no good to this club.

  • Championship Winners 2027 says:

I can’t wait to see him go! Look at his stats!! Provided absolutely zero worth discussing! The only stat that’s relevant is his falling over and giving the ball away! Absolutely useless SOB.
We need fighters, players that contribute.
Sending Earthy out is a poor, poor decision!
We need the youngsters playing ready for the fight in the Championship.

  • Mr T R says:

Give him a break. Paqueta’s had two years of hell. I don’t blame him if he and his missus want to return home.

  • John Lattimore says:

    £34m
    Take it

  • Tom says:

    For that money sell him
You’d get half that for him when we go down ,mind you with these clowns at the helm they
Will only waste it on players not fit for purpose
Cause let’s face it we have to win 8 out of 17 games to stay up
And that’s not going to happen

  • Geezer Chief says:

I live in Lancashire but happy to come down and hold the exit door for him! Said weeks ago that we would be better off without him.

    • Ron Sexton says:

,let him go we need players who want to be in the fight against relegation and he is not the only one who should go.

  • pat says:

What is the alternative? tell him no and withdraw his wages for refusing to work! The fact is he has been sulking ever since the Citeh move vanished through the FA’s clumsy and laughable investigation put the spanner in the works.
He is not the player we all new and has not played well for a good long while now and if Nuno took of the Pac tinted glasses he could see it as well so we are left with little choice but to let him go and get behind a new man in the middle who perhaps does not fall over as often or try to be to clever with the ball in dangerous areas for us.

    • Unhappy hammer says:

Let him go don’t need a negative disruptive player hanging around but the blame has to be with Nuno the man is clueless lets earthy go out on loan letting Wilson leave also he is a cancer get him out mo player is showing up for him get Billic in until the end of the season and see if he can bring some kind of fight back his is worse than roeder

    • Hammer Ed says:

The sooner he goes the better. We lost Payet in strange circumstances too but the Brazilian is not in the same class as Dimitri ! I won’t lose any sleep when he goes.

  • David says:

Sooner he goes the better Need committed players and he isn’t

  • George says:

We won’t miss his goals or assists as he provides none! He gives the ball away more than he impacts the team and his dives holding his face when touched in the chest are embarrassing. I’m happy to let him go but I’m sick of when players want to go we always sell them under value. Arnautovic, Payet, always happens. Paqueta is 28, in his prime, I get we can no longer demand £85m as his form is poor but he can be world class and I say demand £50m or let him rot for 4 months in the reserves. Make a stand for once so it doesnt keep happening! I’m sure in the summer someone will still pay £35m for him, it’s peanuts, so no gamble!

    • Martin Treasure says:

yess. there is that route, or maybe take the money, bring in players committed to keeping WHU in the PL?

    • Mr T R says:

That’s a really nasty comment, George.

      • Whippethammer says:

Unfortunately other sources are insisting the fee is £26m.
£34m if invested wisely (!) may be palatable.
At £26m it would appear we’ve had our trousers yanked down yet one more time.

    • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Am with George, the cost of going down is a minimum £100m we would sell someone we can’t replace for £35m ? We have literally almost zero creativity in midfield it’s like waving a white flag. We will easily get the same or more for him in the summer.

    • Ray says:

I agree with George also, so stick with your opinion. What I am starting to feel though is that based on our performance it is not a safe bet that we will bounce right back up to the PL, and so maybe the best thing is to get what we can and put it towards rebuilding. That said, rebuilding can only start with a new manager because Nuno is as useless as his two predecessors. He repeatedly proves that he is just a gambler, too often opting for players from his unsuccessful past, and then he plays them out of position just as Potter did. He is also too petty and stubborn, so the rebuild starts there.

  • PB61 says:

Gonzo, whatever happened to a buying club talking to the selling club first, before talking to the player? Used to be called “tapping a player up ” once upon a time.

  • Morty says:

I’d bite their hand of for £34m. Does this mean JWP comes back as creative midfielder and captain 😊⚒️⚒️
