Aston Villa Apathy Gifts Tottenham But it’s All West Ham’s Own Fault

Aston Villa 1-2 Tottenham

There was clear frustration from the terraces at Villa Park as the home fans appeared disgruntled and disgusted at their team’s lack of effort. All I can say is, they should try being West Ham United fans.

Because in a game where the Hammers desperately needed Aston Villa to turn up and give Tottenham Hotspur a game, Unai Emery’s team looked like they would rather be anywhere other than the football pitch.

It’s not Villa’s fault, of course. If West Ham do go down this season, which is looking increasingly likely, it will not be the Midlands’ fault because West Ham have been the architects of their own demise.

West Ham Left Hoping For Favours Again

For those who were interested, then switched on to watch Aston Villa v Tottenham, it became evident after 60 seconds that this was going to be a mismatch. All the intensity, desire and athleticism came from the away team as Spurs’ greater desire to remain in the Premier League trumped a Villa team who, quite correctly, have one eye on a European semi-final.

Not that any of the above should come as anything of a surprise. Ollie Watkins on the bench, John McGinn in the stands, and Ross Barkley starting in midfield, it was quite clear where Emery’s priorities lay. If anyone was still not convinced how unconcerned the Villains boss was with his team’s performance, the lack of any substitutions at half time confirmed his apathy.

West Ham Running Out Of Chances

As for Roberto De Zerbi, not only did Spurs completely dominate their opponents from the first whistle, they are showing signs of adjusting to their new manager’s methods, and anybody who witnessed the game will not be confident of Leeds United beating them.

Far too many times this season, we’ve labelled games as must-win. Unfortunately now, West Ham have run out of them. Yesterday against Brentford necessitated victory, and Nuno Espírito Santo and the boys came away with a 3-0 defeat. Once that happened, we were always relying on favours from others, given that we’re not able to take care of ourselves.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

I started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

I give West Ham opinions and interviews on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus. Former video and content creator for West Ham United back in the days of Upton Park. I was lucky enough to feature in the documentary broadcast on that final wonderful game at the Boleyn when Winston Reid broke Manchester United hearts.

I frequently feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here 👇👇

Only hope now is that Chelsea or Manchester City have 50 points deducted for their respective financial impropriety.

  • Vince N says:

It is indeed our own fault but as of today, here’s hoping Forest dump Villa out of Europe (and distract themselves from safety) and that Villa crash out in the League and miss out on Europe next season as a result of gifting the spuds.

  • mark wiggins says:

We need 3 wins but let’s be honest that is disrespectful to the competition poor team selection and no effort from Ville . Feels like a conspiracy

  • Paul Basnett says:

Once Sullivan hired Lopetegui gave him way too much money then kept him on too long then hired Potter gave him no money on the sell to buy idea and kept him on too long the path was set for relegation.
It’s Sullivan and the unprofessional club set up as an old man’s hobby that is the problem. This was always coming because of the useless decision making.
Sullivan got lucky with Moyes as every other manager choice has been bad. Those of us that wanted Moyes out, including me, should of realised he wouldn’t get lucky again.

  • Martn61 says:

Sullivan and Brady have mismanaged our club and are seriously overrated in their abilities outside of the fan base. We’ll know how poor they have been and the responsibility lies with them.
Their lack of moral integrity, different reasons for each of them, does not speak well on their characters.

  • James Clarke says:

Sullivan is getting what he deserves, but unfortunately it means we all suffer.

  • Sue says:

We only have ourselves to blame, it was all in our hands yesterday and although we tried and hit posts etc, that does not win games. We have brought this on ourselves owners just not willing to put money on descent player/players.
Duran, Cresswell could have been so different.
Bowen must have a major issue, totally lost his form/enthusiasm,so many players just not up for the fight now. The Brentford game we were all over the show, defending non existent.
I think we are done, unless these players can put up more of a fight, we were looking quite solid in defence.
A very sad day, Spurs will be chuffed that they had such a poor villa team to play
But we can’t blame that it was in our hands

    • Taffyhammer says:

We already have descent player/players, Sue. We are going down with them.

We should have backed David Moyes with a six year contract before we won ECL.

  • Bryan Goodman says:

Spurs form didn’t change Aston Villa’s form did their fans should be ashamed.
As should our board and players.

  • Pbo says:

We’ll be relegated in 3 weeks – not because Villa played the reserves, not because we didn’t turn up yesterday at Brentford, but because we took 1 point from Fulham (H), Brighton (H), Wolves (A) & Forest (H). I’ve never wavered from my opinion on relegation since 7th January. The gap was massive and spurs were never going to go winless for the whole calendar year.
You can also throw in “inverted Full Back gate” v Brentford and Leeds into the above.

  • Rob says:

It was always going to happen and West ham play Arsenal next who will be less than forgiving with city on their tail. I’ve been saying from the end of the first month of the season we would get relegated and this now looks nailed on. Where does the blame lie? Ultimately with one person, Sulivan. He agreed to buy all the failed older players, two managers that failed miserably and took us to the London stadium which upset the fans. If our fate changes or not he has to take responsibility and leave. If we do happen yo stay up I don’t think he will, however if relegated the story maybe different.

  • E says:

So much negativity…..come on we aint down yet.
History shows that we can turn the big boys over when we have too.
This weekend has been a tough one to take and I always knew Villa would roll over and play a shambles of a team like they did when theyve got the 2nd leg on Thursday, our under 18s could of won that game tonight.
Next weekend though could go down in West Ham history,if we could pull it off and beat Arsenal and Leeds drew or beat Spurs how amazing would that be,potentially stopping Arsenal winning the league and help sending them yi#s down…come on.
All is not done yet, theres still twists to come….keep the faith COYI

  • M B says:

We’re down and yes you’re right we can’t blame it on this game, but Villa for the vast majority of the game were a total disgrace – they effectively threw it and the Manager wasn’t bothered. In situations like this you would want the Premier to take action (maybe impossible), but just an investigation might shake things up. It’s matches like this to make me think of the scandals that were uncovered in Italian football in the past. Nothing will change until Sullivan goes md I fear that won’t happy for many years.

    • Taffyhammer says:

Premier taking action? Hopefully not M B as we will be in deep as most of our performances post-Moyes will be subject to action.

  • Chris says:

Totally agree. It is a problem of our own making, we have three very hard games remaining and we have to give it all we have got. Sadly I don’t think that will be enough to save us.

  • David says:

Yes think that is it. We’ve been unlucky – fixture list always playing teams when they are in form Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool etc for example and now we have Arsenal next. On another day we would have scored and maybe won the Brentford game. I always had doubts that we had enough firepower though and this is all on Sullivan.

    • FrankieMacsBack says:

Sullivan is to blame for the USA/Israel/Iran war too apparently 🙄

      • Taffyhammer says:

And not to mention Russia/Ukraine/Venezuela/Mexico and Mandelson.

He will be taking our ability to buy fags soon.

        Good spot FMB.

  • Terry says:

It’s looking incredibly difficult now to retain our top flight status, a loss on Sunday & a spuds win & I think that’ll be it. So depressing & we only have the board to blame. I was at Brentford yesterday & if we’d have had a bit of luck we could have got something but that seems to have deserted us now. Not paying compensation to get the right manager has been our downfall & that’s all on Sullivan & Brady. It’s not cheap having a season ticket & when you take into account travel, something to eat & a couple of beers & you’ve done 3 figures & then I try to get to as many away games as I can get a ticket for & that’s even more money. I hate to admit it but unless there’s a board change I don’t think I’ll be bothering anymore. Gutted ⚒️⚒️⚒️

  • Mick bering says:

Gonzo I still think we are in with a shout Going to the wire But imn still in disbelief how unprofessional we were in yesterday’s game at Brentford our defending was appalling at such an important time of the season Not over yet mate Just

  • Chris says:

John ayris is right. Sullivan deserves this- getting rid of Moyes, wasting rice money, lopi and particularly potter ( Brady has disappeared into the sunset)….
Won’t be easy bouncing back, need to be careful we don’t do a Leicester. So sad …..

  • Mogg says:

I’m gutted mate. Emery couldn’t of cared less. That’s the defining moment for me. We’re going down.

    • Gonzo says:

Yes mate, totally deflated after that one

      • Den says:

Villa putting out a B team.. Var delays..fixed fixture lists..stupid long throw ins in every game.. we will enjoy the football more in the championship.. roll on next season

  • Taffyhammer says:

    We’re doomed.

Was expecting more from our team after we had it all in our hands. Run the Avram Grant after-match speeches.

    So very sad.

  • Ryan Chapman says:

Absolutely heart wrenching mate. . Only got ourselves to blame though unfortunately. Hurts

  • John Ayris says:

Tottenhams form has turned. They were unfortunate to draw at home to Brighton now they’ve won at both Wolves and Villa.

I think that’s probably it now, losing 3-0 at Brentford is blowing out.

I blame the board for appointing Lopetegui then Potter.

    • Sissons1964 says:

Loppy was bad but to appoint a even worse manager in Potter takes the biscuit. Why do clubs think a sacked manager will be any different at the next one. They get pay offs for doing a bad job and wait for the next mug club, unbelievable. We lose millions on bad transfers but never pay for a decent manager. Makes no sense. COYI
