Hammers fans didn’t take long to reassess their deadline day loan signing; After the initial disappointment that a permeant signing wasn’t forthcoming after all the rumours around first Charlie Cresswell and then Taylor Harwood Bellis, signing Disasi felt like the Hammers had settled for the poor relation.
Poor relation no more: Firmly established as West Ham’s premier centre back, Disasi’s solidity and commitment has surprised even the most cynical and the talk is now of trying to sign him permanently at the end of the season even though his is a ‘dry’ loan with no option to purchase.
Whilst Disasi appears open to a move, he’s got another huge incentive to perform whilst at West Ham.
As the nytimes observed in their wide ranging interview with the French centre back, there’s still an ambition burning bright within:
‘The five-time France international has not played for the national team since featuring against Greece in November 2023. Disasi was a member of their 2022 World Cup squad and made three appearances. He was an unused substitute in the final against Argentina, where France lost 7-5 on penalties. Disasi will hope his form attracts the attention of manager Didier Deschamps.
“I played the last one and every player wants to play the World Cup,” Disasi added. “But as life teaches me, the first part of the season, you never know what can happen. Obviously, every weekend I play hard to be in the best position. But as I tell you, life sometimes gives you some surprises’
So Disasi has double the incentive to be the top dog: Help his domestic career and West Ham along with rebooting his World Cup ambitions along the way. If he carries on making the headlines with the way he’s started out his West Ham career, it’d be a brave coach that ignores him.
“
Let’s hope we get some more clean sheets between now and the end of the season and he scores some goals. It’s that, that will be the greatest help for him.
