Bad day at the office may prove the final straw for Nuno’s patience | West Ham News

Too many West Ham players underperformed this afternoon as a ‘rampant’ Brentford ran riot and celebrated the Hammers’ inability to score, despite hitting the woodwork three times and having a first half equaliser ruled out for Mavropanos’ elbow apparently being off side.

Critical West Ham fans will be able to watch for themselves later – the game wasn’t televised – as Mads Hermansen had a shocking rush of blood mid way through the first half and found himself over half way to the centre circle and colliding with his own defender in an effort to head the ball clear.

As the BBC.co.uk put it, calling West Ham’s defending ‘naive”:

..The rush of blood to Hermansen’s head could easily have resulted in Brentford’s second.

The Dane was left in no-man’s land after charging out of his penalty area midway through the first half and was relieved to see Damsgaard steer the ball wide.

Hermansen’s very poor effort to get a hand to Brentford’s third goal was perhaps the most worrying of all as the Dane seemed about  6″ short again. Whilst the Danish number one has recently looked better from set pieces, he’s been found wanting from open play and on this showing looking as if he will lose his place to Areola for the last three games.

Another bad day at the office: Will Nuno lose patience with his preferred shot stopper

Hermansen did little to show any degree of solidity which the Hammers badly needed, and his hangdog expression seemed to sum up West Ham’s afternoon.  One goal they could have recovered from : You cannot blame a goal keeper for going the wrong way for a penalty but for the first and third, Hermansen must take his share of the blame.

I was a fan of Hermansen initially when he arrived from Leicester and was pleased to see him come back after such a poor start to his Hammers career – but enough is enough: Surely  Nuno will decide to make the call for his French ‘stopper to step up once again. If it isn’t already too late.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Agree with some of these comments – I usually go to bed early in a huff when we go behind but I stayed up to 1am watching this aa we were.alwaya on either a chance. Until the 3rd goal put it to bed it was a really open, entertaining game with plenty of scoring opportunities.

I watched the full game on TV (15.00 matches are on TV in several countries), and let me be clear: this is not the game that would cost us our PL status! West Ham would have won this game 7 out of 10 times. Taty hit the post (x2), Summerville hit the post (x1) and Mavro had a goal disallowed (rightfully, but by very small margins). Mavro also had an own goal, but Kayode would have put it in if Mavro did not so it doesn’t really matter.

We played really well but were unfortunately. The players had fight in them for all game (except after the 3rd), which has been a rare sight this season.

Taty hooked for being on a yellow and showing increased frustration. He would have easily gotten a 2nd yellow if he were allowed to continue.

The penalty was a stupid decision by Diouf. There was no need to slide in (looked like he attempted a block, but completely failed the timing). It was also unfortunate the tackle happened inside the box as it could’ve easily been a freekick right outside.

For Brentfords final goal, most players were switched off. Nuno made offensive substitutes and the message was clear – try to get back in the game. A 3rd goal against was not prioritised, but the space Brentford players had on that goal was not good. Hermansen might be a bit short, but it was a well placed shot and he had limited visibility.

All in all. We played well. Had some extremely unfortunate shots but we did not give up until the 3rd. Had we played like this all season, we would have been in a good spot right now.

booooo! or are you trying some reverse psychology on yerself? 😉

    • Jamie Murphy says:

We still conceded 3 goals. It doesn’t matter whether you play well and concede this many,

poor distribution, long ball and direct football will be a tough watch. then i think that it’s the Arse and that might be a fair option game. i have no coaching licences 🤷‍♂️

I watched the full match live on TV, Bees took their opportunities, Hammers didn’t. Simple.
Any goal scoring part of the body constitutes offside.
So it was Mav’s shoulder. Kelleher pulled off a worldie save from Taty’s shot from 25 metres out after some neat build up play.
Phases of that match we were competing well enough.
Other aspects, defensive lapses, costed dearly.
It’s on to the next game, no point crying over yesterdays result.

Hermansen was hardly the reason the irons lost the game. It was more the case of a midfield that never really gained control of the game plus a rather ineffective offensive.

Why are you blaming Hermanson for the defeat yesterday ? .
    Aerola NO NO !!
We had 14 shots , 4 on target , hit the woodwork 3 times , goal disallowed . More possession and on another day could have won that game .
Tatty was subbed because he was on a yellow card .
We still went for it by bringing on Wilson’ and Traore .
Yes frustrating but we showed good spirit !
Penalty cost us but we should have been awarded one too !
Brentford are a good team and 6th in the league for a reason !
We can’t win every week !!
    Reality check please ….
Spurs will lose at Villa no worries

Picking on the wrong player, try Diouf!!!

    • Den says:

Yep.. he got us relegated yesterday whilst trying to over impress his man utd suiters.
He has made it clear he is using us as a stepping stone since they day he arrived.
I dont rate him at al.l

  • Ray says:

Bowen, Fernandes, Diouf, Hermansen, Pablo and Nuno, were all awful and not good enough for the Premier League today. Realistically as you put it, West Ham could have gone in 3-0 down. They did not play like a team that needed a win or even knew what they had to do. Hard to see any more points coming our way this season. The only good take away is that it doesn’t matter who leaves in the summer.
