West Brom have alerted media sources in the area of their interest in Carlton Cole AND Darren Fletcher.
The story that the Hammers loyalist is being lined up for a move to the west midlands was firmed up by a member of the local press corps to ClaretandHugh a few minutes ago.
We were told the club had sent out a text message to all journalists covering the club revealing their interest in the two players.
Cole would be a typical target for new boss Tony Pulis who like Sam Allardyce usually plays a big target man in his team.
But with Andy Carroll suffering a minor problem – believed to be ankle related – it may be a surprise if the Irons allow Cole to move on.
But if that turns out to be the case the Hammers will be looking for at least £1 million for the Upton Park veteran.
There appears to be real interest from the Baggies with our source revealing: “West Brom have sent a text to the media lads saying they are interested in Cole and also in Fletcher. They added that it looked as though everybody was in for a very long night though.”
The Manchester United midfielder”s move to Upton Park broke down over the weekend with the sides being unable to agree terms.
Cole is light years away from my ideal striker: powerful and not technically gift, but I always appreciated his team affection. If we want to improve our playing style unfortunately he’s not the answer andsome players have to be sacrificed. He’s one of them in my personal opinion. Anyway, I wish the best to him.
If anyone goes now it will be against the managers wishes because of the current injury situation. He has been quoted as saying there have been offers for squad players who could probably get better money and a longer contract elsewhere but he has to dissapointed them and ask them to stay with us until the summer. He has also said we are unlikely to sign a centre half because if they come from abroad they are likely not playing for their team and unlikely to be match fit or up to speed for the premier league.
Conkerpot, this is the first time I didn’t mentioned BFS. I only expressed an opinion about the possibility Cole in the future will leave the club and why could be positive for our improvement. So I don’t understand your comment.
So this will mean players will leave and a foreign central defender will arrive Conker 😉
BBC RADIO 5 LIVE say Cole is having a medical. Bloody hell, Carroll can’t be injured then, but we do have BFS as manager.
Just watching sky sports news and on their main banner it says Cole seen at wba! Also Fletcher talking terms with the baggies.
If this is true then we are finally moving on to the next level.
As for Kaboul and aderbuyore(I appologise for the truely dreadful spelling!). Due to our injuries in defence maybe a loan deal untill the end of the season. As for the striker? Not for me thanks. Talented although he is, he is not much of a team player, sulks and is highly disruptive.
Plus there is the spud factor. I wouldn’t want to sign anybody from them if my life depended on it! Despicable club!
You’re probably right Hugh. Or he doesn’t want sullivan to sign a defender abroad but wants a premier league experienced defender who can hit the ground running. Plus if Cole goes he wants a replacement striker first.
