West Ham United’s pursuit of young French centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo will have to go on the back-burner for now following the Hammers recent splurge.

While Manchester United’s interest appears hampered by UEFA rules, the Hammers’ were believed to be leading the race for the Nice defender, who has gone some way to repairing his reputation in recent years.

Todibo, a player open to joining West Ham under manager Julen Lopetegui, represents a promising addition to the backline which is in serious need of re-structuring. Fabrizio Romano, a transfer expert, suggests West Ham made a bid but hesitated due to price concerns. This is understandable given the huge outlay committed to the purchase of Max Kilman but one wonders if J-Lo has an ideal pairing of Kilman AND Todibo in mind for the heart of the Hammers defence?

If that is Lopetegui’s ultimate plan then he’ll have to wait. Claret & Hugh have been informed that no further central defensive purchases will be made and either Kurt Zouma or Nayef Aguerd have been sold to balance the books which has seemingly put our ‘concrete’ interest in the twice capped French defender on hold.

Todibo’s reported willingness to join is encouraging but West Ham will either haver to get a wriggle-on and sell one of the current defenders or perhaps turn to a more ‘Bargain Basement’ alternative.

Hopefully can get them both sold. There was Saudi interest in Zouma last summer. Todibo in, Kaelen Casey promoted to first team squad as back up along with Mavropanos.
