Transfer update: Joey Barton talks set to continue

|

BartonWest Ham remain keen to push ahead with a deal to bring Joey Barton to Upton Park – with further discussions due to take place later today (Tuesday).

Irons scouts identified the 32-year-old  as one of the best QPR players on view last season, and believe free agent Barton could be a useful addition to the squad.

The search for a striker is still on, but the club are still hoping that Javier Hernandez will become available closer to the end of the transfer window. As a result, they’re keeping their money in the bank until the situation becomes clearer.

Barton, meanwhile, is attracting interest from French clubs Marseilles – who have moved on some of last season’s best players – and L’Orient.

A Hammers source said: “Barton’s history is well documented. But he has settled down and had a great season last year. Nothing is agreed at this stage and we will see here it goes.”

It could come down to how much he wants and we could be pulling out of this one to,
If he wants a couple of years be for retirement he should be happy with £15k a week
