Bees name their Watkins price as Hammers wait

Ollie Watkins could become a target should Moyes raise the cash

West Ham strongly fancy Brentford striker Ollie Watkins but David Moyes is determined to bring in defensive reinforcements before looking up front.

We have learned that the Bees have placed a £20 million price tag on the Torquay born 24 year old found the net 26 times in 50 appearances last season.

And whilst the Irons are keen to get involved in a chase for the player the likelihood is that he will prove beyond their financial resources.

Davin Moyes has made it crystal clear that his major priority is at the back and that an cash raised from the sales of such as Albian Ajeti, Jordan Hugill and others on his potential exit list will first be spent in that area.

Watkins remains one of the hot properties for Premier League clubs this season with Southampton and newcastle believed to be among the interested club.

We understand however ehe Hammers could get involved were they to sell such as Manuel Lanzini or Felipe Anderson.

  1. If 20mill is the price for watkins, unproven in premier, what price Declan, proven in premier and England international at age 21???. I hope I am wrong, but just watched video footage of training camp in scotland and no sign of Rice. Please can you confirm he is with the squad.

  2. I do not believe that Brentford have named their price at £20 million.for Ollie Watkins. They would not sell for less than £25 Million. Why would they? They hold all the length of contract cards.

  3. Get him now !!! This guy is amazing.

  4. Supposedly he has an £18m release clause, if thats true then am surprised it hasn’t been activated yet, this kid looks like he has it all not least the attitude and ability to step up in the same way Jarrod Bowen does, in matches when Brentford have played poorly he has still remained positive and unaffected by those around him that have stopped trying.

  5. The hammers could get involved should they sell lanzini or Anderson.
if this really is going to be the theme all window we are screwed and will miss out on players.

Such short sightedness is not surprising in the least.

  6. covid didn’t effect newcastle or southampton then.

the bottom line is we will miss out on players we want/need because of this ‘policy’, when the owners could simply lend the club the money until players are moved off our books.
If we had been relegated they would have had dig in to their own pockets anyway, now they won’t, even on a short term basis.

    Big mistake.

Still at least we have 5m from Ajeti sale to buy an unprofessional defender who can’t get into the brighton first 11, why would he get into ours? What’s his motivation? Other than a fat salary.
