West Ham defender Ben Johnson appears set to leave the club this summer, despite the recent managerial change, according to The Sunday People.
The 24-year-old full-back’s contract is nearing expiry, and negotiations for an extension haven’t been successful. While West Ham offered him a new deal, Johnson seems determined to seek regular first-team football elsewhere. David Moyes‘ departure doesn’t appear to have changed his mind.
An earlier move to Crystal Palace seems to have now fizzled out. While Palace were reportedly interested in Johnson, their enthusiasm has now waned.
At 24, Johnson is yearning for a bigger role than the backup option he’s been at West Ham. The arrival of Julen Lopetegui and potential new signings further complicate his chances of breaking into the first team.
Despite limited Premier League appearances, Johnson’s ability to play in multiple positions makes him attractive to several clubs. Rangers and Wolverhampton Wanderers are mentioned as potential destinations.
Johnson’s talent is undeniable. With regular playing time at a new club, he has the potential to reach a much higher level and potentially even earn an England call-up in the future.
West Ham, while keen to keep Johnson, will need to respect his desire for first-team football. They now need their attention to securing a reliable backup option at full-back.
Not good enough and will be glad to see the back of him. Never seen him give 100% and surprised he has lasted this long in the top flight!
Totally agree. Never quite worked out how he’s lasted this long as a Premiership player
How can you say that, Phil? He can potentially earn an England call-up. And pigs might fly 🤣🤣
Sorry, let him go !! Useless springs to mind !!
