Claret & Hugh have spoken to our top source at West Ham, who has confirmed that the club has indeed offered Ben Johnson a 5-year deal.

However, caution is advised as negotiations are far from complete. C&H were told, “Yes, we’ve offered Ben a new deal, but he is a free agent now and can explore other options.”

It was confirmed that Julen Lopetegui is a fan of the player and keen to retain his services. It is understood that the negotiations are not completely straightforward at this point, and there is still work to be done with the player’s representatives.

Johnson has received encouragement from other Premier League clubs as well as interest from overseas.

Let’s hope a resolution can be found for all concerned. Johnson is a Hammer through and through, and as an academy graduate and a homegrown player, it would be one less consideration.

With speculation surrounding Vladimir Coufal, who has attracted interest from Turkey, it would surely be a wise move to secure Johnson on a long-term deal.

I still don’t get all the fuss. He’s average at best and showed nothing last season (or before) to suggest he’s worth all this hassle.

I’d keep Johnson over Coufal but only as back up to a new right back

Just feck off. Far too drawn out now. If he can get better elsewhere then great. Don’t blame him, but this is a new coach and a 5 year deal is far too long.
