West Ham’s hopes of landing Raul Jimenez on loan over the weekend depend on whether the Atletico Madird striker rejects a move from Benfica.

ClaretandHugh understands the Portuguese giants have offered the striker a permanent deal and he is currently thinking over his two options.

The Hammers had appealed his work permit and he is now clear to come to Britain but Benfica made their move on the 24 year old.

We revealed exclusively yesterday that other clubs had moved in on the front man and this morning we were told Benfica had come in with the offer of a permanent deal.

A Hammers source said: “Benfica are all over him but it remains fifty fifty – we are hopeful but things aren’t as straightforward as they seemed.”

It all depends whether he ultimately wants to remain an Atletico player or not. Read a good article about him yesterday that paints him in a better light than the wiki warriors who’ve looked at his unfair Atletico record and I think he could be a good addition but we’ll have to wait and see.

Just go and get Austin and stop this rubbish of looking at a player who has very little game time and no experience in the toughest league in the world but would be cheap, just don’t get it!!

  • hammers64 says:

Even if we got Jimenez (which is looking unlikely) it would only be a season long loan .Cannot understand why the owners are dithering like this over buying a quality striker. Its arguably the biggest season in the clubs history and staying in the premiership is all that matters.Just offer the £15 mill and purchase either Austin or Hernandez.

  • Winner takes all says:

They wont buy a decent striker.Jelavic,Borini or somebody like that is the best we can expect i think. It all looks like it is heading in that direction.

  • Roman says:

I hope he goes to Benfica.Jimenez is not the answer or the other muppet Borini.Move on Mr Gold and get Austin before it’s too late.
