Liverpool’s Christian Benteke has been regularly mentioned as a Hammers target in recent weeks but it seems the player is now being ruled out as an option.
ClaretandHugh first brought the news that his £120k a week wages were too much for the Hammers and that was confirmed this morning by David Sullivan to the national press.
Irons fans at https://www.facebook.com/groups/363174467150521/ have ben responding to the news – here’s some of their comments.
O Good would have been a huge waste of money.
O Great news! Phew!!!
O We need to keep as far away from that bloke as we can. We already have a decent ‘target man’ in Andy Carroll, why would we want another? Not the type of player we should be going for.
O He was a dream player when at Villa, but he obviously need to play in that big target player role. In that case he is not our man as we need quicker strikers who can run deep. At least not as long as we have Carroll who can provide areal strength or play as a target man from time to time when we need it.
O Thank goodness for that, Liverpool can keep him
O I’d be happy with a striker that stays fit all season
O Jolly Good!
Just another pointless transfer rumour and it’s only March which likely means we’ve got about another 50 or so to be peddled before the summer ends.
You are right again canchaz but I do like to dream sometimes.
Agree Matte second best to Sakho and only a impact player or to bring on when a game is one,
All the others inter link Antonio,Sakho,Lanzini,Payet,Valencia,Samulsun all bring something to the party and will cause any team in the world trouble
Wilson of Bournemouth or Gray of Burnley would sit in that group perfectly
Gomis or Ayew of Swansea also
And all of them would be a better price
I agree with jaybs about Carroll: he’s always associated with the word “unplayable” or “unstoppable” or “powerful”… haha …he seems to be Godzilla or King Kong, but from 2013 up until today SuperAndy scored 11 goals… ok he’s never had a lot of luck, but the only thing special about him is his price and his salary… good benchwarmer, nothing more, personal opinion 😉
All the stats other than playing time suggest that Carroll is much better than Benteke plus he earns £35k a week more than Carroll so this is a non starter, Batshuayi or however you spell it doesn’t look like the answer either, have watched him play a few games now and if that is his usual level he is better than average but not exactly clinical in front of goal and he is not as physical a threat as Carroll, he reminds me a bit of a lesser Danny Welbeck, Lacazette or Dzeko would both be good options for the 20 goal a season striker.
I’m not interested in Beneteke.
Lacazette or Batshuayi to add to our potency in front of goal.
Tore or Sisto to replace Moses out wide.
Hordveit to replace Song.
That’ll do for this summer ta.
If he is ti pricey who can we afford ?
Why are we even know Woking about it,why don’t the 2 Daves just follow the Austin Route not worth the money, and we don’t want him no more comments we will let you know when we have signed our new striker,
Every player that fails at a big club will cost to much money because they are going to see there contracts out and take the money Liverpoor have been buying duds since Clough went there and watched From the stands drawing his large wages,
We don’t want Henderson either another dud in fact we don’t need any Liverpoor player unless we are making a step backwards
Liverpool sold us one complete Dud! and now we even think about spending money on another one who seems also to shoot blanks at goal, we are supposed to be looking for 20 plus goal striker, neither he or Carroll will ever be! but I see again Mr Sullivan who I respect like Mr Gold for what they have done for the club, seem to think of Carroll as the special one, is that to defend what actions they take?
I worry every time both our two owners speak out, be it to the media with one and the other on Twitter they seem to put their foot in it 90% of the time.
Meanwhile I see the Carroll PR machine is back in action for a second week, this time on holiday dressed more like a clown than a professional footballer, why is he obsessed with being in the media non stop, No other Hammers Player does this, and most of them have much more talent than Carroll will ever have, but as long as he is treated and called Special then he will seem to think it.
