The race to sign Lyon defender Jake O’Brien has intensified as Everton have now prepared a £20 million bid, according to Ferveur Lyonnaise.
Lyon values the Republic of Ireland international at £30 million and is open to offers meeting their valuation.
The Irons seem to be considering O’Brien as a more affordable option compared to their target Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice. Frustratingly negotiations for Todibo, who carries a higher price tag, haven’t yielded success yet.
West Ham’s acquisition of Max Kilman doesn’t negate their need for another centre-back, especially if Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd depart the club.
O’Brien’s £30 million valuation makes him a more attractive option compared to Todibo. His defensive contributions, aerial prowess, and goal threat from set pieces make him a valuable prospect for West Ham.
With Everton entering the bidding war alongside West Ham and Nottingham Forest, West Ham faces a challenge in securing O’Brien’s signature.
West Ham must decide whether to increase their offer for O’Brien or continue pursuing Todibo, considering factors such as budget constraints and their overall defensive needs.
Watched Ligue 1 all last season and both are very very good. O Brien has it all, brilliant in the air and one of the quickest defenders there is. Todibo very aggressive and a good defender.
Todibo no longer an option as he doesn’t want to come to club now.
When he was interested whu shot themselves in the foot by offering £30m when £38.5m was asking price.
JLo wanted him as much as Kilman and another £5m might have sealed the deal.
When will they learn if you’re going to haggle get near to asking price.
Another one bites the dust
Todibo is the far better player and we should try an secure him if at all possible!
Tobido and O’Brien booth good players but will we sign 1 of them remains to be seen. I think we should get at least 1 of them surely we can out muscle Everton. They’ve been dabbling with relegation for a few years now.Cmon ⚒️ splash the cash we’ve got a good season to look forward to.. COYI
