Big Castellanos development today adds to relegation turmoil | West Ham News

The fall-out from last weeks’ relegation will continue to rumble on through the summer as fans, players and management all come to terms with West Ham‘s loss of their Premier League status. For several players, the initial knee-jerk reaction of ‘I’m leaving’ has to be tempered by the expectations of their club who hold contracts on most of the first team squad.

However much a player has ambitions to rejoin the top tier, without an acceptable offer being made the West Ham board do not have to release players simply because of being relegated. Whether any will attempt to force the issue in an Isak – style ‘strike’ seems unlikely.

Will Castellanos stay or try and push for an exit?

Which makes the reported Taty Castellanos stance of last week – that he’d “not play in the Championship” interesting to say the least. Further disappointing news for the Argentine international today that he’s been omitted from the World Cup squad  is not going to do anything to improve the striker’s demeanour ahead of the summer break.

Taty’s ten goals across two clubs last season didn’t turn heads in his homeland so he’ll likely be watching on TV as his compatriots begin their title defence.

Whether the selection snub pushes him towards the exit door at London Stadium isn’t clear: With Lionel Messi still playing at 39, clearly there’s a striker vacancy on the horizon in the Argentine national side and Taty won’t have much chance of impressing in the second tier of English football.

However, score the goals that secures promotion at the first attempt, and Castellanos could certainly build a name for himself.
