Big decision looming for Irons defender

|

Winston Reid may soon need to make a serious decision on his future in the game.

The central defender – who looked bound for a move to the MLS on loan – has seen that move break down and is struggling in a big way to make a return to action.

He has been appearing in under 23 games but has been unable to complete any of them against Wolfsburg, Aston Villa and Brighton.

And with the season going into it’s second half and with the player on a deal until 2023 it may be that the New Zealand central defender will  be forced to make a decision about whether to continue in the game.

He signed a new six year deal with the Hammers in 2017 but it seems unlikely, unless there is a rapid improvement in the knee injury with which he has struggled for for so long, that he and the club will not come to an agreement on that.

this is a real shame as he has been a warrior for us when at his best. remember, the Arse were after him and even manure had alook a while back. he’s a better defender than anyone we have noor had in the last few years. best of luck to him. THAT goal will forever be remembered

Be interesting if the club have insurance on this as I believe he had previous history with the knee?
If he did have previous then unfortunately cover would be excluded.
    Shame to see him struggling.
I think most people raised eyebrows when they gave him 6 years as he has struggled with injuries even before the latest bad one.
Hopefully he gets football somewhere but if he drops down or goes overseas and plays the club will be on for most of his wages.
