Big increase in Hammers budget

|

West Ham will net around £34 million from Sky positional money and qualification for the Europa League should we get that single point on Sunday afternoon.

And that will be an increase of around £24 million on a budget which saw the board project £10 million for League status at the end of the season.

With £2.2 million available for each position, sixth place would give the Hammers around £31 million.

On top of they could look forward to another €2,900,000 should they qualify and that will allow them to bring in a top striker – David Moyes’ main priority.

Each victory in the group pays €570,000 and a draw €190,000. Also, each group winner earns €1,000,000 and each runner-up €500,000.

The increase in positional money alone – coupled with the money  David Moyes chose not to spend in the winter will allow the club to buy a quality striker.

First things first of course and we still need that point but should we get it, finding a decent striker will be easier given that we are indeed in Europe.

Let’s be honest we need 2 strikers at very least…Antonio is only good squad player now as he can’t play all season

  • Julian Woodhouse says:

Uh we need a lot more than a new striker or two. We need a goalkeeper, a CB, additional defensive midfielder, LB at a minimum.

Absolutely agreed Julian, squad is way too small to play in the Europa League on Thursday’s and in the EPL on Sunday’s, you see what its done to all the other teams that are similar to us. This is a massive summer for us because if we don’t get the right amount of quality and the right amount of additional players to supplement the squad it will be a long season next year and will destroy all the hard work that has been done this year. We must learn from the experiences of Wolves this year. They sold players and bought new ones who may be good in the future but weakened the team this season. Moyes has bought well and he has also gambled a bit. Whether Benrahma is a success or not remains to be seen. The two Hugill cost us a bit of money with no promise of output. Czechs are excellent. Buying well with limited money is going to be important. Everton, Arsenal will compete as will Villa and Wolves. Tottenham, especially if they sell Harry Kane, will have money to spend. We need a squad of 24 mature players who want to prove something. At present we barely have 15. Assuming 3 come through the ranks, we need to fund 7 new players to compete in Europe, Premier League, Fa Cup, and League Cup. Good luck David. We need your luck and judgement more than ever.

So if we would have had a budget of say 40 million, we now have 40 plus 24 plus 20 we didn’t spend last window, equals 84 million to spend on players in the coming window. Not bad. Should buy us enough quality to win the europa league.
