Big Perkins update

Sonny Perkins could be set to move to Leeds this summer, as per a new report from Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist is one of the most trusted insiders when it comes to the Elland Road club.

And he has now claimed that the former Hammers youngster could potentially end up moving to Leeds in this transfer window.

He rejected the offer of a new contract at the London Stadium and is now a free agent.

Perkins has also been linked with a potential move to Spurs but Hay insists he wouldn’t be surprised if the attacker did end up making the move to Jesse Marsch’s side.

He said on the Phil Hay show: “Perkins they [Leeds] really like and they wanted to move for earlier in the summer.

“It will have to go to a tribunal after he decides his next club. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Perkins ended up here.”

Perkins was a hit for the Hammers youth teams, making 53 appearances for the U23s and U18s, and he also made three senior appearances for the club.

The 18-year-old scored 19 goals during that time, and is also a former England U18 international with six caps.

  1. How is this a big update? It was widely reported a couple of weeks ago that Leeds were in for him. New news is interesting. Summarizing the tabloids, not so much.

  2. You can hardly blame Perkins particularly with Moyes’s attitude to Academy players. Good luck to the kid.You only have one shot at realizing your potential in a relatively small window in life. With the club signing more players it’s easy for some of our youngsters to be overlooked by Moyes.

  3. Yes from every young players viewpoint we need to see more development of U23’s and not just a seat on the bench, bit real integration in training and a few late sub opportunities. Develop them as individuals, because no U23 who has not been football league intense training and played at that level could be ready by default. The examples of the club treating players like Conor Coventry are so much a signpost to others. Sonny clearly felt blocked, and so acted, right or wrong.

  4. Why can’t we send our promising youngsters out to lower prem teams? Other clubs do it but we send ours out to championship or 1st division. What are they gonna learn down there?

  5. I expect we offered this decent academy player £1 per week
