Big questions to be answered after awful Irons defeat

West Ham 2 Leicester City 3

Lanzini - magnificent goal - great performance

Lanzini – magnificent goal – great performance

Here’s the truth of it….if you don’t start playing until you are 3-1 down you don’t generally deserve anything although the Hammers might argue differently after this defeat.

To say they battered the Foxes after the break does an injustice to the word but their first half performance had been quite awful and the mountain was too high.

Two soft goals early on from an unintended cross from Mahrez and a set piece converted by Huth rocked a team that has been leaving the back door open all season.

A quite beautiful Payet-like free kick from Lanzini reduced the deficit but Vardy pushed the visitors further ahead before the break with a simple effort.

Ayew again reduced the lead with a header set up by Carroll’s knock back from the far post before the Hammers truly smashed into the opposition.

Schemichel made two extraordinary saves from Carroll and the number of goalmouth incidents grew by the minute but it all came to nothing and at the end of it all we suffered out seventh defeat of the season at the LS.

It wasn’t good enough …indeed if we are truly honest it was a total mess for 70 minutes and along the way Obiang appeared to suffer a significant ankle injury and Reid limped off early.

Thankfully, Watford were beaten and Burnley’s draw wasn’t enough to lift them above us but there are far too many question marks over this hugely inconsistent West Ham team.

And I am starting to have my first fears that the board will be trying to answer them during the international break because two games from which most expected six or a minimum four points have slipped away in back to back defeats.

It’s simply not good enough and whichever way you look at it solutions have to be found before the next crucial game because despite most of the teams below us failing to capitalise we simply don’t look organised or too capable right now and that may well mean real bother before too long.

I fear Slav may well be looking over his shoulder in more ways than one!

  1. Cant keep scoring 2 goals and still fail to win because you keep letting in 2 or more. Also conceding early goals time and time again will always make life very difficult.

    2-4 Watford
    2-4 West Brom
    2-3 Bournemouth
    2-2 West Brom
    2-3 Leicester
    2-3 Tottenham
    2-2 Liverpool

14 goals in the above 7 games. However 21 let in and only 2 points taken. Christ know how many times we have conceded in the first 15 minutes of each half as well.

I am still backing Bilic, but perhaps it is time to shake up his backroom staff.

  2. Only one question to answer in my opinion – when is Bilic sacked? – what a disaster again.

    • Forgotten last season so quickly have you? Or the fact that this season we are playing in a brand new stadium?

Are we in the bottom three? No we are not. In fact we are nearer the top half than we are the bottom three. Yes Slaven has and is making mistakes. But he still deserves our baking, which thankfully he is getting at every single game from the fans that go.

  3. PS, Sadly I don’t think Bilic will be here next season. I hope I am wrong, but I think they will part ways and go for Pardew or McClaren. I would not even be to shocked to see Allardyce back.

My god do I hope I am wrong.

Bilic imho should still get one more season at least.

  4. The first thing we need in the summer is a commanding goalie. Neither Randy of Adrian are. We need to stop immediately the Bilic stupidity of having 11 in the box to defend corners. Push Lancini and one other up to halfway and they will pull 3 players back to cover giving us more space and making defending easier. Bilic has to start giving Fernandez more play time – he made a big impact when he came on. And have we coached all the good stuff out of Snodgrass???

  5. Time to bite the bullit and say goodbye to Bilic ?. Before we get relegated , because we are damned lucky to be where we are after today’s disaster . Yet another club stops the rot at our expense .. pretty soon it will be too expensive for us if we don’t draw a halt to our own problems .
I am a fan with my opinion and it is getting difficult ., but the future for West Ham is starting to look rather bleak . A club favourite, a nice bloke , and everything else won’t be any good next season if we are in the Championship or start next season as dismally as we are performing right now . 90 mins of football and we play 20 of them yet again .

  6. The good points I saw ( yes there were some ) was
1 Byram who had is best game for us yet, albeit mostly attacking wise.
2 Masuaku who I don’t rate as a defender at all. He at least looked confident on the bal, and came forward well.
3 Most impressive was Fernandes who I rate as a superstar of the future, looking comfortable and confident on the ball. He always had ideas and always tried to make things happen. He is like china in a bull shop. All he needs to do now is acquire the aggressive side and tackle more.
The next three games are now vital to us and Billic ( just like the last 3 ). He might still not survive now even if we do. The shock of these recent results will do no good for him in the eyes of the owners.

  7. Chaps actually laughing around me when the 2nd one went in…..it’s so regular conceding early doors. Fed up with it completely.

  8. Saw enough positives in the second half to give hope for the future . We were much quicker going forward and the midfield got back and helped in defence… What defence ? Absolutely abysmal defending in first half . Strangely improved when Reid went off . It must be time for a shake up … Adrian in goal and Collins must play next game . Lanzini continues to improve and Fernandez should be given a run of games . Snodgrass looks ordinary at best . Shame the Obiang / Coyote pairing only lasted 20 mins . Hope they get another chance . COYI .
