Sam Allardyce has defended David Moyes against the criticism he faced during his final season at West Ham United. The former Hammers manager believes that Moyes was unfairly judged for his style of play and that his achievements were overshadowed by the team’s struggles.
The Scot was often criticised for his defensive style of play, especially during the 2023/24 campaign, when only Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United conceded more Premier League goals than the Hammers.
Allardyce highlighted the negative commentary surrounding Moyes’ tactics, emphasising that the pundits’ criticism was unwarranted. He praised Moyes for his success in leading West Ham to European glory and expressed his belief that the manager was unfairly treated.
The departure of David Moyes from West Ham United was met with mixed reactions from fans. While some appreciated his achievements, others were critical of his style of play and the team’s performances.
The normally acerbic Allardyce’s defence of Moyes provides a different perspective on the situation, and offers a reminder of David Moyes’s significant contributions to the club.
Moyes is a dinosaur just like allardyce they are negative park the bus advocates! We west ham fans are pleased to be going into this season with optimism for a change. The last 2 years have been an awful watch and we were regressing badly! Moyes left the football club in a real mess only 5/6 players of premier league quality in the first team.We have needed a complete rebuild and Lopetegui and steinden have been doing a stellar job.We want to look forward not backwards as a football club.If Moyes was a top manager as all of the critics say why haven’t any teams employed him.West hams new management team deserve to be left alone to rebuild the team and bring success back to west ham.
Moyes is the past I don’t see any reason to dwell on him.
Was ever so. I want West Ham to play entertaining attacking football. I want clean sheets every game. I want to play three games a week at the top level. I want to win all of our games. I want all of our games free to air on TV. I want to be able to get ten seats together pitchside on the half-way line whenever I need to (at around £20/seat, £10 concessions). I want to pick the team. I want it all.
Dreams, only dreams. Sam and Dave have been amongst the best managers we have had. They were both successful in charge of West Ham United. Compare them with Avram Grant and Alan (yawn) Curbishley. Yes there were many disappointments with all our seasons somewhere along the way. But Sam and Dave gave us some great moments.
As for these guys being irrelevant – just ignore what they say and don’t comment Kev and John. If you can’t be kind – don’t be anything.

You can’t live on your laurels.
What he did for club has been acknowledged.
It’s the future which is important.
Don’t look back……..we’re not going that way.
