Andy Carroll has missed out on an international call up for the games against Germany and Lithuania
It had been thought that Gareth Southgate was ready to hand him a recall given the shortage of strikers available to him currently.
Harry Kane, Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney are all unavailable because of inury but the England boss – who has been to watch Carroll – has opted not to give him another chance on the international stage.
Speaking about the possibility of adding to his nine England caps in January, Carroll said: “There are more caps in me. I’ve always thought I could play for England if I am on my game — if I am fit.”
Rather than use Carroll, Southgate has decided to promote Marcus Rashford from the England Under-21s instead.
He hasn’t proved himself so right decision, he hss to stay fit surely to be considered.
