Slaven Bilic has heaped praise on his defence after they stopped Romelu Lukaku in his tracks yesterday (Sat).
The Belgian striker was limited to a single blocked shot thanks to the efforts of Winston Reis, Jose Fonte and the brilliant James Collins..
Bilic admitted he was concerned about Lukaku’s impressive goal scoring run against West Ham prior to the game, with the 23-year-old scoring in nine consecutive games.
And afterwards he sad: “It was about stopping the service to Lukaku,.
“He’s a major threat, scoring 24 goals. The next top goalscorer (for Everton) has four goals I think so it is about Lukaku. We stopped the service to him from (Ross) Barkley and (Kevin) Mirallas and when he was getting the ball, we tried to double him up.
“So the whole team, the three at the back, did a really amazing job on him.”I’m really pleased with the way we played. ”
Ginge was brilliant yesterday, a really heroic performance – I’ve read that he may be moving on in the summer but think that would be a real mistake – his fighting spirit and courage are priceless – and you can’t have too much of that!
Agree totally Michael.
The blokes a warrior, and I think has at least another season in him.
Not sure when his contract expires but I’d definitely sign him up for another year, with a coaching role offered when he finally hangs his boots up.
