Rumours linking West Ham with former FC Porto boss Sérgio Conceição seem far-fetched to say the least.
The 49-year-old Portuguese manager, known for his solid defensive tactics and title-winning record, has recently been suggested as a potential replacement for current gaffer Julen Lopetegui. However, he’s also reportedly in contention for the Rennes job, which seems far more plausible than a move to East London.
While Conceição’s success at Porto—where he claimed three Primeira Liga titles, four Portuguese Cups, a Portuguese League Cup, and three Super Cups—makes him an attractive candidate on paper, it’s hard to see the West Ham board changing course. Just last week, a top source at the club told Claret & Hugh that Ruben Amorim was deemed “too risky” due to his lack of Premier League experience. If Amorim didn’t make the cut, it’s doubtful they’d break that stance for Conceição.
Despite his impressive trophy haul and defensive credentials, the likelihood is that our board would lean towards familiar options like Graham Potter or Edin Terzić, who are the bookies’ favorites. As the Everton game approaches, Lopetegui’s future may depend on a positive result, but a switch to Conceição seems unlikely.
If it has to be someone unemployed and with PL experience then I would take Potter.
However, Lopetegui, Pellegrini and Avram Grant show that always looking for the safest cheap option doesn’t necessarily yield results.
The old adage ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ springs to mind. As we’re about to do here it would seem.
Would tend to agree. Fan favourites are Terzic then Potter. Oddly there’s a section in favour of Mourinho, but I can’t see the board doing that for many reasons.
So far that’s 2 votes for Potter. Can we run a poll on this too?
Potter, Potter, Potter! Oi Oi Oi !!!
Potter, Potter, Potter. Oi Oi Oi.
