A large part of West Ham’s turnaround in their form that nearly – very nearly – rescued them from the drop into the Championship was put down to the arrival of assistant manager Paco Jemez.
The Spanish coach arrived in January in time for the QPR FA Cup tie and the instant uptick in West Ham’s competitiveness was evident to all.
However his contract was only ever for six months and Jemez has been teasing fans with a ‘will he, won’t he’ narrative since the end of the season after officially signing off with a social media farewell to Hammers fans.
However, the coach has been quoted on Iberian media this weekend and it is bad news for West Ham fans and for Nuno as it seems Jemez has decided to reject any further opportunity to work with Nuno. According to flashscore.pt, he was asked:
“Would your idea be to take over as head coach or as a deputy?
Paco Jémez – wants to be a head coach again
– No, the deputy was something punctual (temporary) that I did. I did this with Nuno (Espírito Santo), in a short and very motivating situation to be able to know the Premier League inside. That doesn’t mean I couldn’t do it again, but from the start I’m looking for a project as a head coach.”
Which will dismay West Ham fans who could feel and see for themselves the impact Jemez had on Nuno’s side. Disappointing, to say the least.
Another ‘situation vacant’; to be filled at London Stadium this summer, it would seem.

That’s a real pity, from what we heard players really appreciated his presence and training/advice. Of course you suppose manager wanted to reforge their understanding so it’s a shame and I supposed perhaps Paco was a counter-weight to NES’ caution.
Been wondering whether he’d work with NES again, as the latter seems like hard work and a lot to put with – but that is just me supposing stuff from what you see & articles. People who dig their heals in and play 5 at the back on winnable games when you need points, become tiresome to deal with and Paco does not have much hair left to pull out.
No recognition of Paco’s input/help in general either.
Would be interested in knowing how NES manages & coaches a team, asides from club marketing videos of training – another great mystery I guess.
If you look at his record as a head coach it was only at Rayo Vallecano he was successful so I wouldn’t be too concerned about him having other offers and without offers he is likely to accept the role (if it has been offered by West Ham) It’s also possible he has an arrangement with Nuno and West Ham to make a decision by a certain date and they know his preference is a head coach role, if he doesn’t get it he comes back. Not saying that’s the case but the fact he is doing press to say it, could be him sending a message to anyone out there that he is available for head coach roles if any are hitting.
Don’t ignore that January was also when nuno actually got to bring in players he wanted
Just get on with it W Ham He wasnt good enough to keep us up at the end of the day Lots more talent out there

If he decides not to, there will be other candidates. It’s not as if there’s only one suitable DOF, only one perfect assistant etc.
How many more disappointments will there be.
Need to start getting something concrete on the table.
