Slaven Bilic says he is a fan of both Jermain Defoe and Scott Hogan but refused discuss whether bids had been made.
During this morning’s press conference he told reporters about transfer speculation “We are not going to discuss the players that are not ours at the moment,”
“The chairman is trying really hard to get some players, in a position that we need. But I am not going to talk about names here in public.”
Pushed on Defoe, Bilic said: “I said last time that he does the things that are the most important in a football game and that’s goals. He scored last year and last season he was probably the main reason Sunderland stayed up. He is doing it again this season, he’s scoring again in the last game and every game but it is not just scoring goals he is also making chances and most of the chances he is converting them into goals. So he is an excellent player of course”
On Brentford striker Scott Hogan he added “Scott is a good player, I watched him afew times, again, he is scoring goals. He is very sharp, very quick, a really good finisher – he does it in the Championship, he is very young, a good prospect and a good player”
Could we not get both at outright for defoe and a loan with option to buy Hogan and send Fletcher in the other direction as a loan so he can gain experience and Hogan can learn from Defoe then when Carroll gets injury again we have to capable players fighting for the spot I no Brentford would no way do that buy for us would be a win win situation leave nordveit at Rb for now or give Oxford the chance to show us how good he actually is
Nice idea about loaning Fletcher to Brentford as part exchange I recommended the same with the deal for Defoe. I would rather see Fletcher have a run in our first team to be honest he has shown he is good enough already at Championship level and with experience I am confident he can step up to PL level, if he was to go to Brentford I would probably go to watch a few matches as it is my local club.
