Bilic sets out his shopping list

bilSlaven Bilic has identified the key areas he want to fill in the Irons side but won’t rush to get the first available options.

The new manager believes he needs a top right back, central defender, holding midfielder and creative middle of the park operator as his first signings.

He and David Sullivan are holding intensive talks over each position but a source close to the new boss said: “Slav wants the absolute best he can find and won’t be rushed.

“He has identified the areas he’s looking at and  it’s caused a ripple of surprise that he sees the need for another top class central defender.”

“However, with James Collins hitting his 32nd birthday in August he sees this as the time to bring inhig h quality new blood at the heart of defence.”

David Sullivan insists that Alex Song could yet arrive as  permanent signing but doubts are arising over Carl Jenkinson on a new loan deal as Arsenal are believed to want £2 million for the privilege of letting him out for a season .

Key to Bilic is to find a top class creative midfielder in the Luka Modric mould whom he once claimed was the best player in the world.

  1. Bring them in Slav, want to see some of the deadwood left hoofed out or they can run down their contracts on loan or in the reserves.Curtis loves being the agent of deadwood & reserves, its about his limit 😉

  2. Another holding midfielder is a surprise or was this before Obiang? Creative midfielder a must, central defender, winger/wide player and of course right back. Then its just fill in players for what will be a long season.

  3. We have new blood at centre half Oxford,Henry and Burke as well as Tomkins and Reid plus Ginge who has at least 2 years in him,
We have 3 defensive midfielders plus Tomkins has played there and we have Noble and Alfitano to add to the midfield but we only have Downing,Valencia and Zarate with that bit of
Ball carrying skills ,we need 1 or 2 that can split the other teams defence,

    • I agree. I do not see us being short at centre half, We need someone who can turn a game with a few moments of brilliance in the midfield like an Eyal Berkovic, I don’t see Zarate or Valencia being good enough for that.

      • What about Ravel Morrison.I suggest resigning him again.Ok,not really, just being mischievious 😀

  4. the difference a month makes. fatso never had me so excited for the future. cant wait! *rubs thighs*

  5. The guy is obviously well informed already, and has obviously been watching us recently. He is quite correct we have absolutely no creativity in midfield, yes, we do need a holding midfielder who can break up play (perhaps that’s Obiang ?) and I would like to see a fast wing back with attacking qualities someone in the Ashley Cole mode.
I think Ginge is great I hope he gets a good run in the side.

  6. Come on gas you must remember the excitement when Roger Johnson,Emanuel Pogatetz and Danny Collins (yeah me neither) arrived lol

  7. I don’t understand how he can really know what we need without training sessions and evaluating the players for himself. I guess I base that on not thinking the list of who Sam played each week is a good representation of what we actually have on hand.

So, we need a 7th central defender? I can appreciate the depth required for a European run, but maybe the owners are getting a little more savvy about what they put out there versus the truth.

  8. Maybe we should ask Richard I know everything Keys for some advice ….

  9. I agree with bilic. Yeah we have plenty of center backs but that’s plenty of average center backs and only one good one in Reid of course. (Henry and Burke still need time to develope). Lovren would be a brilliant signing and very much a do-able transfer I reckon. Song back would be awesome and then surely the main focus should be on a creative wide player?

  10. Mmm, no mention of a striker…interesting

  11. Loren was never worth £20 million and Southampton had a right result,I think if we go after him they will want to swap him for Reid, because there value is about the same and last year they were interested in him,
I like the blond lad with the pony tail who plays for Lillie but don’t know his name
Don’t mind Chulker at OPR as well
But sooner pick up a good right back

  12. Lovren was really good at Southampton. But went to the Mickey Mousers & wasnt all that.Dont really see the need for another cb though, not at the moment.Other priorities to spend the money on i would have thought.

  13. Same as that Rads,we’ve enough CBs. I really waqnt to see Henry play he sounded promising before the injury

  14. We have enough CBs, that’s true, but I’ve heard a lot about this young talent…

  16. It will not be easy… Man Utd are on his track too… lol
