West Ham United are planning to draft in a club legend to assist Slaven Bilic.
The Telegraph – which is developing a good track record for getting things right at the club – reports that names have been put forward as the club look to replicate Teddy Sheringham’s success last season.
Among the candidates being mentioned are ย John Hartson, Tony Cottee, Don Hutchinson and Dean Ashton while another idea is to also employ someone such as Julian Dicks on the staff.
No-one has yet been approached and it all depends on who wants to do it โ and what coaching badges they have.
Bilic’s immediate concern, however, is s to obtain work permits for two of his trusted backroom staff.
It is a formality for one of the Croatians, Edin Terzic, as he was born in Menden, Germany, and has an EU passport but for the other two, Nikola Jurcevic, the first-team coach, and Miljenko Rak, the fitness coach, there may be a hearing this week with West Ham hoping, given their vast experience, they will be backed by the Football Association.
Blimey when you think of some of the flops that been allowed to have work permits to play in the league you’d think two expert back room staff would have no bother. As for the legend as long as it’s to advance the team and not for nostalgic reasons it sounds like a good idea.
Lol,i love this term ‘Legend’.So they bring in Ashton or someone similiar. How are they legends. For me a legend is a Brooking,Bonds or Moore type figure imho ๐
Not Florin Rฤducioiu then lol
Nah,but Marco Boogers gets my vote ๐
I’ll get a Wetpants merchant to track his caravan down for you lol
Bring up Dicks and give the ladies to to Hartson Or Aston and when they decline you will know how interested they are,
What about Sinclair he wants to get into management ?
Sinclair was one of the pundits for the women’s WC earlier…..if you know what I mean lol tbh from what I saw it was a load of sh@te
Not for me, I don’t buy into this ‘Legends’ stuff – you’ve got to have your Coaching badges, suitable experience and what the Manager wants!
People like Bonds, Brooking and even Dicks are from a different era – it’s no good thinking of the past we’ve got to think of the future and move on!
….let guys like Dean Ashton, Trevor Sinclair or John Hartson or whoever, do their five minutes on Talksport or whatever and let Bilic get on with the real work!
I’d be quite embarrassed if any of those are our new staff, loved every one of them as players but as coachs hmmm, teddy was a different story he was a quality striker and won loads of trophies with manure etc I agree with Micheal, we need someone a bit more high profile
Trevor Sinclair was a role model for a club and wanted the Blackpool job he would be no different then Teddy,
Dickey has shown willing tacking on the ladies and is part of our club,
Who would M Miller like he did not want the list so who is out there with the knowledge who is not already a coach or manager Nolan ? To forward thinking ?
Di Cannio to hard to control ?Parkes just a keeper ? Or another outsider Like BFS,or
McDonnald or Brown
Michael,Dicks is about the same age as our new manager. They played together. How can you say he is from an old era & we should move on where he is concerned. With your logic Bilic shouldnt be our manager either. He is from a different era if Dicks is,lol ๐
That’s what I was trying to say chicken if they are younger they are still playing if they are old they are like BFS outdated,
It’s always easy to be a critic but not so easy to offer alternatives
Devonshire would have been another good choice,
If they want to be part of it they have to throw there hats in the ring and let Slaven pick
I could be wrong but I haven’t heard of Slav mentioning a need for the “legend” assistant. You see a lot of new foreign managers with an ex player sitting next to them on the bench as a connection to the club but Slav already has that connection. If he wants someone all well and good but if not then it’s no great shakes.
Well from what i have seen Slav has his own boys coming in anyway. If an ex-iron can actually improve the backroom staff or are better than what Bilic has all well an good. But i want guys who know what their doing. Not just shoe horned in somewhere because they used to play for us
lol.. it makes me smile… how many legends do West Ham have? Some weeks ago, when Cole left, I read on the other site that maybe he’s a legend… I like Ashton, unlucky quality player (I remember he scored a spectacular bicycle kick goal against Man utd), but maybe “legend” it’s a little excessive (personal opinion)… mmmh… maybe next legend could be Nolan… lol ๐
Legend is used to loosely now a days,Moore,Peters,Hurst,Bonds Brooking,Parkes,Rio
Di Cannio,Devonshire,Rednapp,
Not many more although wetpants would probably have an official stats for what a legend is
Aston was another Carroll,Hartson no,Lampard for us No,Carrick for us no,Johnson no
Alan Taylor maybe,Ludo maybe
Tyson yes Matte yes Rad yes chicken Yes stingray yes Kevin yes spoonie yes
Cookie Monster yes conkerpot yes
Just my opinion
ahah… and bubs a big yes ๐
