Bilic transfer kitty could get big boost

Slaven-Bilic (1)The Hammers are set to hand boss Slaven Bilic a summer transfer kitty of around £35 million although £12 million of that will immediately be spent on completing deals for Manu Lanzini and Sam Byram.

However should the Irons finish in the Champions League places the war chest could be boosted by a few more millions as the club strides on into its new era.

As reported elsewhere on the site, the vast majority of the available cash will be used for a new striker as the club hunt for a player who can fit their wage policy without breaking through the FFP regulations.

The season’s budget is much the same as last year although a Champions League bonus would see the club probably looking at back up left and right sided defenders.

However, by and large the squad looks strong in most areas thus allowing some elaborate spending in the front position.

Our main source said: ” We are strong in most areas now thanks to a great window last summer . The idea now is to improve as we shuffle the pack from season to season.”

  1. Personally, I feel we need L + R back defender cover more than strikers, especially if we get into the Champions league – because we will HAVE to rotate, even if it takes injuries to force it on us. What happens if Cressie gets injured? Not going to happen, with the extra Euro games? I don’t think so! Or fatigued at very least, threatening the league position. We will need a bigger squad next season…. and, yes, replacement for Moses.
Personally, I don’t want to see Carroll go…I think he’s massive for us…and I think he can have run now without injury

    • Surely with the new stadium and 20-25000 more fans our FFP will be that much higher!!!
Or is that not applicable to us, because nobody wants us to succeed, especially SKY. They are always so negative when they talk about us.
Do we still owe millions or has that been cleared yet????

  2. Well the 5 players who have been instrumental in our season as new signings,Payet,Lanzini,Ogbonna,Antonio & Obiang cost about 35-40m in total.Shows you don’t have to pay stupid money to get class acts if you scout well.Citeh weigh out 49m on Sterling which is a joke in comparison to our deals 🙂

  3. I actually think we have got a great player in Byram and great cover in Tomkins at right back.
Stephen Hendrie has been great for Southend and the dev squad, not saying he should play in the CL if we get there but he does deserve a chance.

Centrally at the back we are covered with Reid, Ogbonna, Tomkins, Ginge, Henry, Oxford, Kouyate.

Midfield is just majestic with both Samuelson and Poyet knocking on the door and you don’t need me to run through the rest other than to say Moses and Song I wouldn’t have thought would be there next year.

Up top we have Sakho, Valencia, Carroll and think Emineke wont get a stay.

Any player can be improved upon but in our position and budget how many of those would we actually spend out on as cover? RB, LB cover as I said in my opinion we have good cover, others might not agree but that’s what makes football so interesting.

New guy from Borussia MGB is a replacement for Song I would guess and Gokhan Tor for Moses?

With Batshuayi a Marquee signing up front to give us a rotation of 4 top draw strikers

I for one am a very happy hammer if those 3 come through the door and strengthen things but am interested in hearing what everyone else thinks.

  4. Don’t think there is a lot to add to that wjo.Seems a pretty fair assessment. Not too sure that Poyet will he around or have a future with us,my opinion. Also don’t really see we have 3 top quality strikers as it stands.More than content with Sakho,Carroll.Could see Valencia going out the door. But having said that Bilic seems to have a liking for him.Who knows,i have learnt over the years that players I seem to like managers don’t & vice versa.Maybe thats why they are managers & im stuck on a fans site.
Agree about Byram,Saw. a fair amount of him in the Championship, nice footballing brain, will be a real asset for us,imo again, lol

  5. Gut instinct tells me Song will go in the summer. However if a deal is done without an exorbitant wage then I wouldn’t be adverse to keeping him,but I assume Nordveit will come in to take his place..Moses will defo be gone & would be delighted if Tore came in his place.
Can see Moses,Song,Valencia all gone in the summer. With Song,Moses & Jenkinsons wages taken off the outgoing bills I really am getting a little frustrated reading about FFP.Are we the only club that it effects?? We seem to be,We are the only ones who talk about it it appears.Look at Stoke,Palace, they bring in some top names but don’t rattle on about it,ha ha

  6. I am sure a few players will also leave & help free up more money from wages & transfer fees. There are members of our squad who wont be able to make the step up to 1st team action. I agree Moses & Song wont be here come august, moses hasnt shown enough to offer a permanent deal. There are a few players who have been out on loan this year who could save us spending £m’s. Mixing the youngters with top draw players will only make them better. The loan system is great for giving them game time & experience but need to be around top players to be able to improve. Lower league clubs dont have these type of players & could hold their development back.

  7. Ogbonna is a very good left back if need be

  8. The place we need to strengthen is the forward position we need more clinical strikers, we also need midfielders that can pass as well as they press, if Defoe is available at the end of the season he could be used as an impact sub, much like Kevin Phillips he will always score goals and we don’t have anyone that you could call a fox in the box. If we don’t get Nordveit I would be happy to see Song stay, he offers us something different as he tends to move laterally rather than in straight / diagonal forward lines and this gives us greater defensive strength and a better platform to counter from, he is also good making short passes out of defence which if played together frees Kouyate to be more of a threat going forward.

  9. Anyway you look at this speculation , the goal pre season was survival ? Move to the o/s and put a squad together and see what happens , the signings this summer have added huge strength in depth and the manager has been exceptional !( we got what we asked for )
Everything that has happened since has been a bonus so far this year , p/l safety achieved .
For me the side just needs a tweek here and there , who goes and who stays and who comes in will be decided by Bilic ! I like many love what’s happening but let’s not get carried away with the success so far and not get Ott ambitious , what’s happening is happening so fast as to what we expected that maybe we need to calm down and let do it correctly and don’t start changing a team that in all accounts is still in its early stages , this team is getting better and will get even better , we need to just carry on as we are going and not upset the applecart , leave it to Bilic , a happy content side can win anybody on the day,
Weve got that already , let it manifest ,

  10. Dear Mr Southon

Is there any chance you could do an article to clear up the position of the Clubs finances ??
Im sure that I read somewhere that we could not go to the OS in debt ! – is this the case or are we in debt and if so just how much – your best ( Informative) guess will be enough for me !
Great Job love the site — COYIs
    Andrew
