Slaven Bilic and Carl Jenkinson faced a press conference in Romania this afternoon.
Bilic told reporters: “It’s a good game for us and we are very respectful of this competition. We were not happy with the result last week. We are in a more difficult situation than we would have liked but we will do everything to try to win. We have come here with a good team that I have a strong belief in, but it is difficult to play here, then fly back for Arsenal. The situation for most of the clubs who are playing the qualification rounds is the same. We started pre-season very early. In the first game, the biggest impact was the red card for Collins. It gave Astra a little bit of confidence.”
“They showed their quality after that. We want to win tomorrow, of course. I’ll say it again, I have strong belief in my team. There are senior players in every line on the pitch. Lanzini is one of them and he showed on Sunday he was lively”
Carl Jenkinson sitting next to his manager added: “We’ve got a lot of quality throughout the squad. The Gaffer has left some players at home with an eye on Sunday, but we have more than enough ability to go out there and win tomorrow. You learn about yourself as a player in Europe and of course we want to progress. That’s the aim and we know the fans would love that. We went from being in control to technically being behind. We need to score, it’s going to be a tough tie, but we’re prepared. We’ve all played in the heat before and I’m sure we’ll be fine with it.”
What’s happened to this site?
This is meant to be the positive one! All I see is people moaning, go back to WetPants!
Some of us still are mate but there are plenty of stats guru’s circling around like depressed vultures just waiting for Bilic’s first slip up….
Get into Europe again Essex that would mean that the doom merchants would spontaneously combust and have 3 months of depression before a ball was kicked…
Just imagine when we win the EL we will be in the CL for our 1st year in OS… the most feared team in european football. 😉 stick it to all these doom merchants.. lol hahaha
Lol,its cheerful souls like Johnham that make me enjoy coming on forums.I recommend it to manic depressants. They will feel fine with life after reading the problems Irons fans have with happiness & trying to be happy 😉
I see we are as cheerful as always? Christ this is becoming so repetitive we’re going to lose on Sunday, we fielding a weakened side tomorrow, has it escaped your attention that Maiga was bought by you know who, the legless wonder was given more game time than Poyet last season by you know who… Both bought for a job apparently as everyone keeps saying but when picked tomorrow the world implodes even though we are supposed to thank one of them from the bottom of our heart for all he did as he did his job… A squad is a squad it’s not Bilic’s fault that the one he inherited isn’t the best but for ****s sake it should be good enough to beat this lot
John we have a squad for a reason, we don’t just have 16 odd players that have to be involved in every single game. I guess you must have missed bilic’s call to ask you who he should name in the team… 😀
Spot on John, I’ll be gutted if we do go out with the “senior player across each line” being Jenks, Nolan and Maiga. Even with the kids we should have enough, they did very little until the red card last week.
Let’s hope Slaven gets this right, we’ve waited almost a decade to get in Europe.
Disgraceful decision by the club to field a weakened team tomorrow night – we play all season to play in Europe and now we throw it away. Shocked by the owners supporting this – shows a complete lack of disrespect to the fans. This decision has broken the hearts of a lot of West Ham fans. Come Monday morning out of Europe and well beaten by Arsenal.
