Despite barely getting any game time for West Ham this season, there was notable interest in the January transfer window from Portuguese heavyweights Porto and Sporting Lisbon, as well as Feyenoord, Shakhtar Donetsk and Brazilian side Flamengo who were reportedly on the verge of signing the player for £19m – a deal that would have allowed West Ham to recoup what they paid for him, yet this was blocked by Graham Potter, which makes his non-appearance even more puzzling in Summerville’s absence, being that he is a ready-made stand in for the injured Dutchman.
Earlier in the window, Saudi club Al Hilal, also made inquiries yet were only willing to offer a fraction of what the Hammers had previously paid.
Guilherme’s lack of playing time has led some West Ham fans to question whether he is not upto to the level expected, which was further fuelled by a senior source earlier in the season, who told Claret and Hugh “He is taking longer to come good, than as first anticipated.”
The young Brazilian has featured in just 7 league matches for West Ham, accumulating only 55 minutes in total, with a cameo 5 minute appearance in West Ham’s FA Cup exit away to Aston Villa.
Guilherme clocked up an impressive 36.4khm/h in 2022, during an Copa do Brazil Sub-17 final against Vasco da Gama, and was widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the world following his senior breakthrough with Palmeiras.
With continued interest from top clubs, this suggests that the 19 year old is highly rated elsewhere, and is likely to be sold-on in the summer once Summerville is recovered – particularly as West Ham need to raise transfer funds through player sales.
There are quite a few reasons why they are at West Ham and have not played. But none of those reasons are being explained as they are business related. I’m quite sure Ferguson has a couple of terms in his loan contract that stipulated how he was to be looked after before he gets a start as there were issues when Brighton gave him his last run out. The reality is that his loan is a good opportunity to look at him properly and see if he is worth buying in the summer after his loan spell. As there is nothing to play for this season, keeping him fit and niggle free while also assessing him over a period of time is the main reason they loaned him. It’s a case of treating him with kid gloves and getting him at a lower price while keeping him fit and flying under the radar. And Guilherme’s limited playing time is more related to add ons and bonus payments that would need to be paid. West Ham are preparing the ground work for the summer, so any extra funds for Potter will be of use, rest assured that both will get game time next season!
Hear hear, AD’s Cream. Could not have put it any better myself.
How many times have you watched him train?
Very few players play in the premier league at his age, give him time.
We have other very good youngsters who similarly don’t get chances, if they were good enough they would play.
Don’t go on age, it’s the top level of the game, it’s about ability…
You missed the point. There’s the. U21s or championship teams he could be playing in, if not quite ready? We could of sold him but choose not to so far. No reason not to try him out in a dead season with Summerville out or need some pace.
Kudus has been sussed out by teams, and Guilherme might have, been a option for a 2nd half swap?
could have sold him
did you know why this happened? because hammers planning to avoid add-ons and bonus that have to be paid to former club if certain condition are met. this “certain condition” is like how many times he played as starting, how many times he scored, or the minutes that he has played, etc. Who knows… you can see it clear if you read all clause contract
West Ham had been leaking a horrendous amount of goals pre Potter. Sorting that out meant focusing on the defense and also making use of players with Premiership experience. There is a quarter of the season left. We are exiting a period of a lot of injuries. We have a decent run in.Give the man a chance,
But at what cost to younger talent who we already have at the club or targetting during the Summer transfer window John? Agents and young players will be looking closely at the very limited playing time given to Guilherme just 55 minutes, Ferguson barely featured and Academy players on the bench initially but nowhere to be seen with the exception of Scarles.
At a time when other clubs including Forest whose first team were badly hit with injuries are flying. It’s clear we have little funds available but if the club don’t play youngsters how will they replace all those who are demotivated by lack of opportunities or those whose contracts are ending?
Guilherme needs to play either with the under 21’s , on loan or for Westham otherwise he will regress .
Yet C&H and other sites continue to argue that Potter promotes youth and gives them opportunities. Why is Guilherme reported to be highly rated by Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munic, Liverpool and Chelsea but never gets any opportunitiesat West Ham? Same with Ferguson, our number one transfer target yet barely played any minutes since he was signed. Academy players all not even selected as subs, yet look what Ollie has proved since he was given his chance.
Meanwhile West Ham are bottom of the Premier League in shots on goal since Potter joined. We may be conceding less goals but what would you rather see? Young technically gifted players who add pace given their chance or boring as hell displays like yesterday and a return to Moyesball. Bet they can’t wait to leave in the Summer and I don’t blame them.
This article continues to raise it’s head over and over with same outcome.
When and why he hasn’t played substantial more time.
Won’t find out whether he’s up to the task unless he’s played.
What he does during training sessions and how he performs at match level may not have any comparisons.
Conversation between him and Ferguson is probably repetitive.
WHEN WHEN WHEN WHY WHY WHY
