Thomas Tuchel has given perhaps the clearest indication yet that Jarrod Bowen missed out on England’s World Cup squad largely because he plays for West Ham.
The Hammers captain was left out of Tuchel’s 26-man squad for the summer tournament despite registering 18 goal contributions in a struggling side.
That tally comfortably exceeds the output of Noni Madueke, whose Premier League return for Arsenal stands at just three goal contributions across the campaign.

But it would appear goals and assists only tell part of the story.
And when weighed against the level a player is operating at, Arsenal chasing titles and competing in Europe clearly counts for far more than performing in a relegation-threatened West Ham team.
When asked directly about Bowen’s omission, Tuchel gave a revealing explanation.
“I mean, you mentioned Jarrod. Jarrod was just one of the players under the radar, maybe, but he was just excellent in every camp, excellent in every camp for us.
“And then gets the phone call that he’s not on the plane.
“Does Jarrod suffer a bit from the situation that is at his club? It’s difficult for him.”

It was also noted during the German’s press conference that Bowen handled the disappointment extremely well.
Which stands in pretty stark contrast to Harry Maguire, who, as reported earlier, has had something of a very public meltdown over his own omission.
Granted, Tuchel has made some eyebrow-raising selections including John Stones and Jordan Henderson.
But it is quite obvious Bowen has received enormous support from West Ham fans today and many will rightly feel he has been extremely unlucky not to be heading to the World Cup.
Club captaincy has weighed him down.

And heres the message if your a talented young footballer.. do not join west ham unless you just need a stepping stone club. Not if you want to play for England that is.

So by that logic, why is Spence (or Dan Burn come to that) included? Thought Southgate was bad enough for this kind of ‘big club’ BS…
I’m hoping that Iran get drawn against the USA, beats them & that the winner gets control of the Strait of Hormuz until the next World Cup instead of deciding the matter with missiles.
Jarred is not in on form, nothing to do with club. Or is in a way as we would be better if he was in form
We all love Jarrod Bowen and what he has done for West Ham United. However his form has been abysmal over the last few months and it’s understandable that he has been dropped from the England squad. Tuchel cannot take passengers to the World Cup. I’m not saying that there aren’t serious questions over who he has, and hasn’t, included in his squad though. Unfortunately for Jarrod our club and his position as captain have become a bit of a poisoned chalice.
He 100% didn’t deserve to go based on his form which has been awful. Absolutely NOT a leader and incredibly uninspiring. When have you ever seen him try to rally his teammates NEVER!!
I think where Bowen has been lucky is being in contention until now. If Pep had been West Hams coach instead of Nuno, Bowen would not even have made the West Ham team as often as he has. Now he is left to reflect on his decision to put his career aspirations second to family, if indeed that was the case. Had he done a Declan, he would probably be going with him. This World Cup could turn out to be the worst ever, so it could be a blessing in disguise for Bowen.
It is the same old story, unfortunately you need to be at the top clubs to even be considered.
I should not be too bothered Jarrod as I don’t think we have any where near a good enough team and do not think we will progress and have a fairly early exit. I am sorry for you but hope you can put the disappointment behind you and drive the team forward to a win we need to stand any chance.

I just hope that it doesn’t comeback to bite us as this is the best squad of players we have ever taken to a World Cup !!!!”
Bowens not been up to speed for some time, it’s hardly a surprise.
Saka, Madueke, Bowen, Palmer and Foden are all natural right wingers/ inside forward and seems Tuchel decided on having 2 players from both sides. That’s tough competition and 3 of the above missed out this time.
As a Norwegian I’m just happy that we’re playing an international competition again, for the first time in 26(!) years.
