Nayef Aguerd’s omission from West Ham’s squad for the match against Aston Villa spoke volumes.
First, it signalled that Aguerd is no longer part of West Ham’s plans. Second, it highlighted that Konstantinos Mavropanos is now favoured over him in the team hierarchy.
Whilst many West Ham fans might expect Julen Lopetegui’s starting XI to feature £40m signing Max Kilman and recent recruit Jean-Clair Todibo, there was speculation about Aguerd’s possible return, especially with Kurt Zouma’s season in jeopardy due to a failed medical. However, it seems that Aguerd’s return is highly unlikely.
After months of expressing a desire to leave and changing agents, Aguerd appears to have burned his bridges with the club. Missing out on the first team is one thing, but not even making the bench is a clear sign of his diminished status.
Speaking exclusively to Claret & Hugh this morning, a high placed Hammers source provided a less than encroaching report of the clubs attempts to sell the defender. Asked whether there had been any progress with the sale of Aguerd, the Hammers insider said; “Due to the high salaries we paid to attract players, none are easy to offload for the right price”. Sobering!
Aguerd’s situation is a result of his own actions. Lopetegui has made it clear he values commitment, something Aguerd has not demonstrated. For both Aguerd and West Ham, a move to the Saudi Pro League would be beneficial, but the prolonged silence suggests there is no significant interest. If there were, a transfer would likely have been completed by now.
It may be as straightforward as we don’t want an injury stopping him being transferred. Whatever way you look at it it seems like Aguerd is history here.
Have you considered that he might simply have been injured or unwell ?
I can’t see why Aguerd would not be sold , he’s actually ok it’s the system that doesn’t work for him. Think he would be a good buy for someone ! Not on the cheap though .
Paid E35 million for him back in July 2022 so likely on the books (and owing) E20 million. I know a lot don’t like the concept but that means anything north of E20 million and we record a profit. Twenty eight, international but the fly in the ointment might be French football finances. French clubs might be interested, but French clubs are sellers, not buyers in this market. Also to be realistic we just paid (after a loan) E32 plus add ons for Tobido who is four years younger. Maybe a loan with the option to buy?
As always just click bait headlines .he may have not performed in training, he may have slight knock etc you don’t base any article on fact just pure speculation
Come on. IF that were the case it would have been mentioned in the pre-game press conference. Aguerd has wanted to leave all summer. The club need that money to buy Soler and possibly a it towards a back-up CB.
Maybe even a backup for left back?
Previous article highlighted how weak this position is.
One left back, Emerson, with Cresswell who is so slow against maurauding speedy strikers as reserve.
Prior to article completely overlooked perhaps JLo has a hidden gem

Go look at another site Jh and stop moaning like a broken record
For every game now, top players will be omitted from the matchday squad. Why? Because there simply isn’t enough places on the bench to include them all.
Exactly Charlie F
Does it then mean that Lou’s Guilherme is not in the managers plans
He played in the pre-season games and was reported as being happier so his omission from the match day squad was a surprise. It doesn’t seem likely to me that he is being frozen out and I hope not too. Injuries can come quickly into winter time and we don’t have too many centre backs. I also think he could be used as a left back with his speed and long passing abilities. We are not blessed with a lot of cover at left back, Emerson gets through the yellow cards and I’m really don’t want to see how Aaron Creswell copes another year older.
If you did your job correctly, you’d know that Aguerd fought hard to play in Europe and join the EPL. He has no desire to play for Saudi and isn’t money motivated. He solely focuses on the club’s project. Again, if pundits and other fans weren’t so set on vilifying him, you’d remember that he was at his prime and impressed by his performances when he first joined WHU. But Moyes, like with many other players had a negative impact on him. He also had to cover a lot of ground for Zouma which everyone seems to forget. Go back to his performances and see who was playing alongside him when you called him « Rolls-Royce ». No player is perfect, but you guys have taken it too far with Aguerd. Watch him play with Rennes and his national team: he’s a different man. He was promised a more progressive, attacking play which suits him better but it never happened. As for the bu****it about him not being committed have you spoken to him or his representative directly? They have a larger squad now and some players will be left out on some games. Again, it doesn’t mean he fell out of Lopetegui’s graces. He’s played all pre-season games and It would’ve been right down disrespectful to not include the latest signings on the first home game. Respectfully, please stop unnecessary speculations, you’ve all done enough damage…
Well said. I also think Aguerd should remain and play in a three man centre half formation alongside Kidman and Tobido.
