Blessing in disguise as Irons learn to win again

leroylogoI was delighted to see Slav find the way forward after half time and for the team to break out of that awful defensive attitude for the first time in a while.

I may have managed only at the lower levels but to be honest it doesn’t matter where you are, football has to be won and the way to do that is to get forward and pressure the opposition. Simple really and we were fabulous in the second half.

We had lost our way a little bit and I understood perfectly why the manager was going down a defensive route with so many injuries but last night he was very very brave and so were the players.

It was fantastic to watch in the second half when our big three were Manu Lanzini, Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll plus the brilliant James Collins at the back.

Maybe it was a blessing in disguise that we went one down because that forced a change of mood and attitude and it was exactly what we’d been crying out for.

Our achievement to be sitting on 29 points is remarkable because we are just three or four games away from safety at the halfway stage – incredible and given this is a new team with a new boss all the more praiseworthy.

I’d seen a fair bit of Michail Antonio in the past and love the kid because although he’s raw, there’s no more willing a player around and he has fantastic pace, power and attitude.

And with the players we have coming back we can start dreaming of Europe again. Perfect end to the New Year – wel done Slav and the boys. Let’s give em hell in the second half of the season.

  1. Well written mate with lots of positivity, one of the things that pleased me before the season started was the fact we at last started the campaign with a decent ‘squad’ knowing that we could take on board a couple of injuries and scrape through until the big players returned, I never for once thought we would have 7 of our best players out at once, a lot of credit must go to the players who have come in to cover, to the board for stretching the budget to its limits to create a squad, the majority of fans for being patient and Slaven for not only his rotational skills and ability to tactical change but also his focus and self belief
COYI and a Happy New Year to all mentioned COYI ⚒⚒⚒⚒

  2. 24 hours after disagreeing with you over Jenkinson I agree 100% with your verdict on
The team the manager and the future,
I also agree with DS that we can get a top 4 place if we do not drop any points at home in the second half of the season 3 points against Arsenal and Liverpool this month would give us the confidence and the points to start our run,

  3. One game ago people were suggesting that carroll needed to go , we were hopeless , now a goal from carroll and a victory to southanpton and wree going to qualify for the champions league! Lol if we get europa league football at os we would have done well…and in all honesty id. Rather we didnt …thursday night games are a pain in the a##
