Blog: Pellegrini future remains in balance

Blogs come to ClaretandHugh from here there and everywhere to the website forum and we always try to give an airing to those who come from a different direction whether the contributor chooses to use his own name or a pseudonym. After the win at Chelsea there were many comments and in this one from a follower, simply calling himself Del PE, makes it clear that in his view one swallow  doesn’t make a summer and that the manager sshould still be on his way out!

By Del PE

Well played guys – it’s been a long time coming…energy, effort, guts and determination… ie playing for the badge but why has it taken so long?

Reading between the lines I am going to suggest that many of the players were “not happy” ( could have used much stronger language but this is a family thread  that the very stubborn MP did not see,  the obvious  that Roberto was simply not good enough.

As a result confidence levels dropped and they did not put in an effort which should be the absolute minimum required for any Hammers player!!

Martin comes in and the guys say:  “OK we’ve finally got what we wished for, let’s go out and put in a shift..”

MP should be ashamed of his team performances before yesterday, he should have walked or been sacked. His apathy has been terrible to watch.

Many individuals are now pointing fingers at the so called “keyboard warriors,” supporters who wanted MP out including myself. In other words voicing their concerns about the state of our club and the way we were set up to play.

In the corporate world if you only perform for one week in seven you would be “disciplined” at the very least… MP has done just that and should be sacked.

Let’s see what transpires in the next few matches. I always said Antonio and Fabianski would make a difference but the transformation since Antonio has come on has been quite incredible.

I haven’t always been convinced of his skill level but his efforts can never be brought into question. MP your future is still very much in the balance but let’s finally enjoy a performance that made us smile and celebrate for a few hours although 40 points is still a ong way off

  1. Sadly indeed, Pelligrini cannot be excused for the failings at West Ham. Especially in the light of the funds given him to achieve great succesess. Between him and Hullios, they wasted money on bad signings (Roberto, Sanchez, Jack W) and have kept on Reid, without him playing for a year now. Pelligrini’s ability to lift the players to great heights is a serious factor too. As well as his failure to bring out the best in his strikers … I.e. Perez (who has now scored a heap of goals in Serie A) … Arnie, Chucharitho, Hugill and now Haller. Then add in 2 new contracts for Masuaku (whom he has excluded from match squads) and Creswell … who were both below par as left backs at the time. Sorry, MP sadly not the present and future for West Ham.

  2. One victory out off 8 is disgraceful, we should have been winning at least 3 of them which would have put us 5th, one point behind Chelsea in 4th..
If we revert back to that kind of form on Wednesday MP should still go.
Unbelievable that one win & people are suddenly saying MP is the man to lead us blah blah..

  3. I agree with that final sentence. There should be no excuses if the next two results are poor. Wolves are top six but they will have had three games in a week & have struggled to cope with Sheffield U. Arsenal are seen as a top side but their recent form is hardly in line with that. My view is that Pellegrini has she not shown enough over the last eighteen months -it certainly cannot be seen as steady progress and ANY slide from Saturdays performance levels should see him shown the door.

  4. Thanks for the piece Del PE. I must admit to having been one of those who felt that Pelle should go before the Chelsea match (but in fairness to myself I was also one of those who felt that Moyes should not have been fired)

Now I feel that Pelle should be given a chance – fickle perhaps but I saw what had been missing for many matches – the willingness to defend as a team – even Fornals was willing to track back

Not all fans expect the same things – in this monopolistic era of Man City expecting trophies is a bit tough – even Pochettino failed to deliver a trophy but I would argue that he did amazingly well

What I expect from WHU is a) please to not be involved in a relegation scrap year after year and b) to have some magical moments – to me Saturday provided the latter – the scenes at the end with David Martin highlighted it

Also I need to pay tribute to one of our unsung team players – Angello Ogbonna – never moans and always celebrates when needed

Of course we need to continue in this vein – and hopefully Pelle will also have learnt something

  5. I said in another thread that I felt there was ‘Player Power’ behind the Chelsea game line-up and performance – and it’s no coincidence that we had 7 British players in the side.! 🤨

  6. Despite win at Chelsea he still is not the man for me.
