Boleyn auction raises fans’ anxieties

The club has announced that the first of three end of season auctions for Irons memorabilia begins tomorrow morning (Wed).

And in the picture above you will see some of the items the club has decided to put under the ‘hammer’.

The club says in its website announcement that “Wednesday’s auction presents an unique opportunity to become the proud new owner of a precious Boleyn Ground keepsake as the Club prepares to embark on an exciting new chapter in Hammers history. ”

However, at the ClaretandHugh facebook group a different view is being taken by some and here’s some random comments from members:

O Just having a look at the West Ham Auction site I can’t understand why some of these Lots are on there.
They are part of our West Ham history, not fixtures & fittings from the ground. 😞

O Wondered that myself. It seems a lot of items are up there that belong to all of us, in that very important ‘spiritual’ sense
I thought same

O They are part of our history but where would they keep them otherwise?

O Do you remember Arsenal selling off all their memorabilia every 10 years, to save space? Thought we were moving to a bigger stadium? Bad move!

I understand that we are moving into a bigger stadium but all the pieces that are sold via the auction will be replaced by new items across the OS like signs, pictures, equipment etc. So there wouldn’t be space as it would be taken up by new things.

O Don’t buy that. Many of those items were presented to commemorate events at the club which are part of our history-not seats/signs that are too big to move.
VERY disappointed DG & DS!

O Yes, for commemorative items given to the club I agree those should be kept at the club as they are unique pieces. Only some things should have been auctioned.
O Does seem odd???

O All the shirts from the stairwells are up for grabs. Selling everything it seems. I guess its because they only have the shop and ticket office/offices at the OS. No back area at the actual stadium that they can use. Great shame.

Another example of melons going into one.The same melons who in a week or two wont give a sh*t whats happened to all this stuff.Do we need to call Del Boy,see if he has a free lock up or room in his garage for this to be forgotten about for decades.Maybe one of these items will turn into Del Boys watch he became a millionaire with.Maybe in 100yrs time an East Stand bog seat might be priceless & end up in Southerbys 😉

Now everyone take a deep breath stop & think for a millisecond, we are moving to a new stadium that isn’t our’s. I am guessing that alot of the items being put up for auction are not seen by us poor supporters apart from a few seen on stadium tours (boo hoo). So does it really matter what the club do with it all? It would be pretty pointless to put it all into storage for ever never to be seen again or to skip it.
This auction is giving everyone a chance of owning a part of our history, embrace it & ffs stop MOANING.

Since the last game it has turned into a MOANATHON hasn’t it.As Rad said, few weeks time this auction & all the items will be meaningless & forgotten about by 99% of the support.Moaning for moaning sake lol.I bet if the club said they were putting everything in storage never to be seen again then these same fans would be up in arms saying they should hold auctions so fans can get a memory of Upton Park rather than throwing everything in a warehouse somewhere never to see the light of day again.

All profits go to our academy. Does that make you whingers feel any better?ffs most of us wouldn’t have known most of this stuff even existed if it hadn’t been put up for sale. Now it’s suddenly vital for the club to keep it.
