Boss Bilic defends pricey winger’s slow start

ArniesentoffSlaven Bilic has been defending the slow start made by his record signing Marko Arnautovic.

Despite an improved performance – and with just 10 men – there was little coming down the left side from the Irons against Burnley.

With Aaron Cresswell out of sorts again and and Arnautovic offering very little offensively, the team disappointed down that flank all afternoon.

Bilic resisted an obvious temptation to use Arthur Masuaku because the coaching staff felt an extra midfielder was required in the “one short”  circumstances.

Explaining his thinking Bilic declared: “Yes, he has made a slow start but that is because he got suspended for three games and then he missed the last game because of the flu he got.

“His slow start is because of his mistake. This (substitution) was just tactical: he didn’t go out because of a bad performance, he was taken off because my staff and I decided we needed an extra man in midfield.”

  1. Bilic didn’t want Chris Woods because he had no prem experience but defends Arnie’s slow start, another example of Bilic’s ineptitude…

    • How do you know he didn’t want Chris woods and would you have preferred him to Hernandez, also should he criticise his players in press no

  2. He defends and ptaisrs AC Hart & Marko. Who I know Marko has talent but he iany clicking w team yet.
I would play Arthur or Lanzini in his position. I hope he comes good but seems our record buys over past few Yeats have not lived up to hype.
Then likes of Maskuaku £5m Antonio think £8m Lanzini £10m Sahko £3m Obiang around £5m I think.
I’m a big fan of finding an developing youth or firing those diamonds in the ruff.

  3. Yes Jrs ! They are out there but we seem to be looking at ready made players of late , nothing wrong with that but always a gamble if they will click or not !! Ayew 20 mill ???

  4. 99% of managers did’nt want Chris Woods Winslow.
