Boss thanks ‘best scout’ Soucek for Coufal

David Moyes has hailed Tomas Soucek for diverting the Hammers’ attentions to Vladimir Coufal!

The right-back has become a genuine star in east London after his £5m move from Slavia Prague.

And Moyes has now admitted that the Irons didn’t actually know who the right-back was before Soucek recommended his Czech Republic international team-mate.

The two play regularly together at international level and also played together at Slavia.

And Moyes believes that Soucek deserves plenty of credit for pointing out just how good his pal is!

Speaking to reporters, he said: “Vladimir has been fantastic. I have to say Tomas Soucek has been the best scout because he told us about Vladimir. If he’s not going to be a great midfielder for me, he’s going to be a great scout. We were struggling a little bit and we needed a bit more last year. We were also a little bit injury-prone (in that position).

“If we find more players like Coufal, then great but this is the problem: we’ve set the expectations when you bring in the likes of Vladimir and Tomas (Soucek), and it’s not that easy to do but Coufal’s performances have been excellent. I couldn’t keep him off the training pitch yesterday. I wanted them to have a rest and just stay in but he’s on a different level. He’s a great boy; someone who has no ego, wants to go about the job, wants to train, wants to play and sees every game as a real privilege and pleasure to play in.”
