Whilst the agreement for the transfer of Carlos Soler from Paris Saint-Germain is almost done, the club are facing obstacles due to the club’s need to offload players to balance the books. Danny Ings’ high salary is proving to be a stumbling block in the negotiations.
With the transfer fee and player wages agreed, the Soler transfer is now pending and on hold whilst the club scramble to sell at least one high earner.
Ings is second only to Lucas Paqueta in terms of earnings, raking in a cool £125,000 per week although that is at odds with what C&H has been told. High placed club sources have informed us that Ings actual wage is closer to £80k per week basic although that is still a significant sum and not bad for a player who has only scored four goals in two seasons.
Whilst it would be unfair to single out Ings completely, the collapse of fellow high earner Kurt Zouma’s transfer has put extra pressure on the deal.
The Hammers have already made significant investments in the transfer market, and further signings will require the sale of existing players. Ings, despite his limited impact at West Ham, commands a substantial salary that could deter potential suitors. The Hammers did offer to subsidise Ings transfer to former club Southampton but the move was reportedly rejected by the player.
Unless the Irons can find a solution to Ings’ contract situation, the Soler deal may be jeopardised. The club’s ability to play in the transfer market will depend on their success in offloading players and generating funds.
A workaround for West Ham is signing the 27-year-old on an initial loan, however, even the loan fee appears to be dependent on players leaving. West Ham already have James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek, Edson Álvarez and Lucas Paqueta as options in midfield.
