West Ham manager sends out strong message as he speaks to press ahead of Arsenal clash
Nuno Espírito Santo addressed journalists at Rush Green today ahead of Sunday’s West Ham versus Arsenal clash.
As most would expect, the Hammers boss was grilled about the prospect of relegation, Declan Rice’s return and Tottenham leapfrogging West Ham in the Premier League table.
Spurs beat what looked a half-arsed Aston Villa side, while West Ham slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Brentford — with more than a little help from VAR along the way.
Nuno Fronts Up After Brutal Weekend
To be fair to Nuno, he didn’t shirk what was clearly a hugely damaging weekend in the relegation race.
“It was a tough weekend for us, yeah, tough results.”
Short and to the point — but hardly inaccurate.
The momentum has swung massively over the past week, and West Ham now find themselves back in the bottom three at the worst possible time.
“There Is No Hiding Place”
However, when the conversation turned towards Arsenal, Espírito Santo made it very clear he expects a response from his side.
“The important thing is we’ve always been able to react to poor results. We need to bounce back, I’m ready so let’s go.
“Arsenal are very good, they’re fighting for the league title but the London Stadium will give us a bump in energy.
“There is no hiding place.”
Time For West Ham To Respond
And that’s probably the key point.
West Ham can complain about Villa rotating players, VAR decisions, Tottenham’s resurgence or anything else they like — but ultimately this now comes down to how the Hammers respond themselves. The Hammers gaffer was asked about Aston Villa’s Jekyll & Hyde performances and how it cost West Ham but was too canny to be drawn into it.
Because if there really is “no hiding place”, Sunday feels like the moment where Nuno’s players have to prove they’re up for the fight.
Hmm 🤔 Don’t know what you were watching in the last eighteen months of Moyes management at West Ham.
Could have been so different had Wee Davey been offered a seven year contract with appropriate backing just eighteen months before his demise.
Beat Arsenal and confidence will be sky high, survival will be possible, LOSE and it’s over!!
Players will hide, agents will start calling other clubs to move their clients and it’s over!
Sullivan and Brady ruined Birmingham and now they’ve destroyed West Ham.
Championship is possibly not the end, look at Leicester!! We have zero money. Sullivan has sucked it dry and probably nicely hidden so his moronic son can enjoy a great life.
Lousy stadium, lousy recruiting, average manager now, and STUPID STUPID SUPPORTERS who turned against the best consistent and trophy winning manager! Moyes was a fabulous manager to steer a club to regular success. His record at Everton year on year is impressive
