Bowen believed move to West Ham could “finish” him

Jarrod Bowen has spoken for the first time about the “craziest and most stressful day ” of his career.

The brilliant  winger cum emergency striker has now been called up by England and topped Paolo Di Canio’s 2004 16 goal season for the Hammers last term.

He has joined Declan Rice as a true star in claret and blue but has explained he was a total bag of nerves before putting pen to player on the deal that brought him to the club.

Hull Live reports that as he approaches 100 games for the Hammers after leaving the Tigers in January 2020, he looks back on his time at the club with great fondness and is thankful to his father for convincing him to make a move which he admits, was not on his radar.

And clearly – speaking on the on told the Ben Foster Podcast  the player had an anxious 24 hours before finally committing himself to the Irons.

He said: “The last day (at Hull City) was mad. It was the craziest and most stressful day of my life,”

By the time I’d woken up and travelled to Hull’s training ground the bid had gone in. I had no idea.

I went into the training ground not knowing this and had gone in to get changed. The manager at the time was Grant McCann and he said ‘what are you doing here?’ He said ‘we’ve accepted a bid from West Ham’

My stomach just started to feel sick. To get that news, I thought ‘oh my gosh’. I didn’t know what to do as I’d never done it before. We had to get a train to Kings Cross and there was me, my dad and my brother thinking this is unreal.

For the first two weeks at West Ham I just didn’t believe it. It was like a trial. My first two games were Liverpool away and Manchester City away and I thought, ‘this could finish me’.”

Thankfully it didn’t and the Hull City standout has become a serious PL star.
