How Can West Ham Get Peak Jarrod Bowen Back?
Unpopular opinion? Maybe. But here it is anyway.
Out-of-form Jarrod Bowen would benefit from missing Thomas Tuchel’s next England squad.
Let me be crystal clear before anyone starts sharpening their pitchforks — I love Jarrod Bowen. Every West Ham supporter does. He’s been our talisman, our match-winner, our Prague hero. But if we’re being brutally honest, he looks knackered. Leggy. Just that half-yard off it.
And when Bowen drops a level, you notice.
This isn’t about ability. His quality is unquestionable. His work rate for West Ham has never been in doubt but right now the cutting edge isn’t there. The explosive pressing, the sharp movement inside the box, the clinical finishing — it’s just slightly muted. His decision making also seems slightly with him dribbling into trouble too much and shooting when he should be passing and vice versa.
Anyway, there’s an international break looming. Would it really be the end of the world if Tuchel left him out?
In fact, it might be the making of him.
Rest Now, Fire Later
Tuchel clearly rates Bowen. That much is obvious. But here’s the bigger picture: if Bowen carries on at this current level — not poor, just not peak — he risks becoming the man who makes the provisional 30-man World Cup squad and then gets trimmed when it matters most.
That would be the real heartbreak.
Imagine instead he gets a proper two-week reset. No minutes. No cameos. No travel. Just rest. Put his feet up. Recharge. Then return to the London Stadium with a point to prove and eight games left to rip through defences.
A front line of Crysencio Summerville, Taty Castellanos and a fully firing Bowen? That’s formidable. That’s survival form. That’s West Ham at their best.
If the Hammers are to stay up, we need our captain back to peak sharpness. And if that means sacrificing one England call-up to secure both Premier League safety and a World Cup ticket?
Now I appreciate my suggestion might not go down too well in the Bowen and Dyer household, after all, Bowen loves playing for his country. But his might just find missing out on this next one could be the making of him.

He is taking on too many jobs on the pitch, that’s the root of the problem.
I think it’s an injury TBH, knowing him he’s playing through it and not complaining. Maybe a rest would do him good, just hope that doesn’t mean he’d miss out altogether, as this is the last break beforehand?
I think he has been carrying an injury for some time, so yes I agree with you a break would do him good. However, to miss these England games could also be detrimental to him getting to the World Cup (if indeed it still goes ahead) Tough choice
Have to say I agree with you, Gonzo. We do need our Jarrod back. He’s a shadow of his normal playing self right now. He can’t seem to keep the ball and certainly makes the wrong choices too. It’s hard to watch. So, yes, he needs a break of some sort, and I don’t mean a leg. I’m sure we would all agree that Jarrod Bowen is West Ham’s most important player.
I know it was only one week but he did get a break for the Burton match so had 2 weeks between games. Maybe he is carrying a slight injury ? But yeah it would be a result if all our players that play for national sides were left out their teams
